Митрополит Волоколамский Иларион посетил кафедральный собор Женевы | Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk visits the cathedral of Geneva

В неделю 6-ю по Пасхе, о слепом, по приглашению Управляющего епархией Преосвященнейшего епископа Ричмондского и Западно-Европейского Иринея, пребывающий в Швейцарии глава Отдела Внешних Церковных Связей Русской Православной Церкви, Высокопреосвященный Иларион, Митрополит Волоколамский, прибыл в кафедральный Кресто-Воздвиженский собор Женевы, где возглавил воскресное богослужение. Его Высокопреосвященству сослужили викарный епископ Вевейский Александр, клирики соборного храма и духовенство, прибывшее из России и США. После Божественной Литургии перед мощами святителя Иоанна Шанхайского и Сан-Франциского был отслужен молебен и вознесена молитва к «просветителю русского рассеяния».

В слове проповеди Митрополит Иларион, коснувшись рассказа об исцелении слепого, подчеркнул, что евангельские чтения, которые предлагает нам Св. Церковь в пасхальный период, взятые с Евангелия от св. ап. Иоанна, свидетельствуют о том, что Христос Спаситель является истинным воплотившимся Богочеловеком. Христиан, имеющих возможность в Таинстве Евхаристии соединятся с Христом-Спасителем каждый день, Митрополит призвал не впадать в неверие – эту духовную слепоту современности, но, взирая на пример святителей Алексия Московского или Иоанна Шанхайского и Сан-Франциского, непрестанно пребывать с Богом.

От имени епископа Ричмондского и Западно-Европейского Иринея, викарный епископ Вевейский Александр, передал Митрополиту самые лучшие благопожелания, заверив высокого гостя, что двери женевского кафедрального собора, который Его Высокпреосвященство неоднократно посещал в предыдущие годы, всегда открыты для молитвенного общения. Иерарху была преподнесена книга об истории храма, а также икона всех святых в земли Гельветийской просиявших.

Особое чувство благодарности было также высказано протоиерею Петру Перекрестову, привезшему из Сан-Франциско мощи святителя Иоанна Шанхайского, который как епархиальный архиерей Западно-Европейской епархии (1950-1963), символически снова вернулся в Женеву. Воскресное богослужение собрало значительное количество верующих со всех уголков Швейцарии, среди которых несколько сотен приступило к Таинству Исповеди и Причастия.

On the sixth Sunday of Pascha, the Sunday of the Blind Man, following the invitation of the Hierarch of the Diocese, his Grace Bishop Irenei of Richmond and Western Europe, the chairman of the Department of External Church Relations of the Russian Orthodox Church, his Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, while in Switzerland, came to the Cathedral of the Exaltation of the Cross where he led the Liturgy. His eminence served in concelebration with Bishop Alexander of Vevey, the clergy of the cathedral and clergy from Russian and the USA. After the Divine Liturgy a moleben and the prayer to “the enlightener of the Russian diaspora” were offered before the relics of Saint John of Shanghai and San Francisco.

In his sermon, Metropolitan Hilarion touched upon the Gospel story of the healing of the blind man, stressing the point that throughout the Paschal period the readings which the Church offers us, which are all taken from the Gospel according to John, reveal that Jesus Christ the Saviour is truly the God-man, God made flesh. Christians, who daily have the possibility of being united with Christ in the Sacrament of Holy Communion, were implored by his Eminence not to fall into doubt – the spiritual blindness of our time – but instead to look toward the exalted examples of Saint Alexei of Moscow and Saint John of Shanghai and San Francisco, and remain in constant communion with God.

Speaking for the Bishop of Richmond and Western Europe, Bishop Alexander of Vevey expressed his best wishes to the Metropolitan, assuring the honoured guest that the doors of the cathedral, which his Eminence had entered numerous times before, were always open to him in order to share in prayer and communion. The Hierarch was given a book about the history of the cathedral, as well as an icon of all the saints who flourished on the Helvetic lands.

Deepest gratitude was also expressed to Fr Peter Perekrestov, who came from San Francisco with the relics of Saint John of Shanghai.  Saint John was once the diocesan bishop of Western Europe (1950-1963) and on this occasion he symbolically returned to Geneva. The Sunday Liturgy brought together a significant number of worshippers from all over Switzerland, several hundred of whom took part in the Sacraments of Confession and Holy Communion.
