On the 19th week after Pentecost, 2 / 15 October 2023, His Grace Bishop Irenei of London and Western Europe made an Archpastoral visit to the Holy Trinity Parish in the city of Bern, the capital city of the Swiss Confederation. On Saturday evening, Vladyka, accompanied by Subdeacon Pavel Lisitsin, who arrived from the London Cathedral for the occasion, was solemnly greeted at the entrance of the temple, and on Sunday His Grace headed the Divine Liturgy. A large collection of faithful prayed during the service, the majority of whom partook the Sacraments of Confession and Holy Communion, including a significant number of children. The hierarchical service was accompanied by the magnificent singing of the parish choir under the direction of regent Tatiana Bunshu. At the Little Entrance, the cleric of the Holy Trinity Church, Priest Vladimir Svystun, was awarded Nabedrennik for his work for the benefit of the Mother Church.
In his sermon after the Divine Liturgy, Vladyka Irenei touched upon the interpretation of the day’s apostolic reading, relating to the experience of the Apostle Paul who ‘ascended into the third heaven’ (2 Cor. 11.31-12.9), where he beheld the good things of the Lord, saw the mystery of the eternity of God, and experienced His immediate presence and inexpressible love that cannot be conveyed in human language. Looking at the experience of holy Apostle, the Archpastor called on everyone to strive for communion with God, through the daily struggle with our passions and desires, without giving in to despondency, for even the Apostle Paul was given ‘a thorn in the flesh, so that he would not become exalted’ (12.17). Thus it becomes clear from his testimony that not only revelations and special gifts of grace are sent down to us by God, but also temptations, and even suffering and spiritual struggles. Remembering the words of the Lord, that His power is made perfect in weakness, the Archpastor called on everyone to learn to gratefully accept moments of consolation and joy, as well as moments of trials and temptations.
At the end of the service, the Priest of the Trinity Church, priest Vladimir Svystun, on behalf of the parish, expressed special gratitude to the Archpastor for his visit and words of paternal instruction, wishing him strength from the Lord in caring for the needs of the vast diocese.
After lunch, the Annual General Meeting of the Parish took place in the church, opening with prayer and a word from His Grace. Those present received reports from the Priest, the Starosta, the treasurer, the audit commission and the sisterhood, and discussed pressing issues of church life. The intensive development of the Trinity parish, associated with the arrival of new parishioners over the past two years, was discussed, and the importance of spiritual and material care for new members of the parish was especially emphasised, as was the ongoing work on the development of the choir and Sunday school.
After the end of the meeting, Vladyka Irenei had many hours of communication with the clergy and believers, and then departed for England.

В неделю 19-ю по Пятидесятнице 2/15 октября 2023 года Преосвященнейший епископ Лондонский и Западно-Европейский Ириней совершил Архипастырский визит в Свято-Троицкий приход города Берна – федерального города Швейцарской Конфедерации. В субботу вечером Владыку в сопровождении иподиакона Павла Лисицына, прибывшего из лондонского кафедрального собора, торжественно встретили у входа храм, а в воскресный день Его Преосвященство возглавил Божественную Литургию. За богослужением молились многочисленные прихожане, большинство из которых в этот день приступило к Таинствам Исповеди и Причастия, в том числе значительное количество детей. Архиерейское богослужение сопровождалось благолепным пением приходского хора под управлением регента Татьяны Буншу. На Малом входе клирик Троицкого храма священник Владимир Свистун за труды во благо Матери-Церкви был награжден правом ношения набедренника.
В слове проповеди после Божественной Литургии Владыка Ириней коснулся толкования апостольского чтения об опыте апостола Павла, «вознесенного до третьего Небесе» (2 Кор. 11:31-12:9), где он видел блага Господни, узрел тайну вечности Бога, Его непосредственного присутствия и невыразимой любви, которые невозможно передать человеческим языком. Взирая на опыт св. апостола Павла Архипастырь призвал каждого к стремлению к Богообщению, в ежедневной борьбе с нашими страстями и похотями, не предаваясь унынию, ибо даже апостолу Павлу было дано «жало в плоть, чтобы он не превознослися» (12,17). Таким образом, очевидно, что не только откровения и особые благодатные дары ниспосылаются нам Богом, но и искушения, а также страдания и духовная брань. Памятуя слова Господни, что сила Его в немощи совершается, Архипастырь призвал каждого научиться с благодарностью принимать моменты утешения и радости, а также минуты испытаний и искушений.
По окончании богослужения клирик Троицкого храма священник Владимир Свистун от имени прихода выразил особую благодарность Архипастырю за совершенный визит и слова отческого наставления, пожелав сил от Господа в несении забот о попечении обширной епархии.
После обеда в Свято-Троицком приходе состоялось годовое общеприходское собрание, которое открылось молитвой и словом Преосвященнейшего Архипастыря. Присутствующие ознакомились с докладами священника, старосты, казначея, ревизионной комиссии, сестричества, обговорили насущные вопросы церковной жизни. Было констатировано интенсивное развитие Троицкого прихода, связанного с прибытием новых прихожан на протяжении последних двух лет, особо подчеркнута важность духовного и материального попечения о новых членах прихода, отмечена работа по развитию хора и воскресной школы.
После окончания собрания Владыка Ириней имел многочасовое общение с духовенством и верующими, а затем отбыл в Англию.
