2020-05-08: At the initiative of its Ruling Bishop, His Grace Bishop Irenei of London and Western Europe, the Diocese is initiating a Diocesan Heritage Project, in order to foster a wider knowledge of individuals who have played a significant role in the foundation, establishment and life of the parishes of the Diocese of Great Britain and Western Europe over the past century.

In his Decree setting out the contours of the project to the clergy of the Diocese, Bishop Irenei extols the ‘pious desire to preserve the memory of our forefathers, ancestors and teachers in the faith, who have laboured willingly under the yoke of Christ to establish the parishes of this God-preserved Diocese and maintain their strict and fruitful adherence to the life-giving commandments of Christ’. For this reason, His Grace continues, the Diocese will undertake a small labour ‘to foster a knowledge and love, amongst those now and in the future struggling for their salvation in these lands, towards the pillars on which our local church has been founded.’

The project will collect detailed information on individuals from each of the Diocese’s parishes, who, over the course of its history, have made a profound mark on its life and exemplified the Orthodox heritage. ‘These might be the founding priest,’ His Grace writes, ‘an ever-memorable spiritual father or confessor, a notable starosta or choir leader, etc.; but in any case they should be individuals whose mark upon the history of the parish is considerable and worthy of wide appreciation.’ Additionally, newer parishes will record the Saints and significant figures in the history of the Church Abroad that have inspired the missionary zeal that undergirds their lives. These biographies, together with photographs and historical information about the parishes themselves, will be in due course edited into a trilingual (Russian, English and French) publication, published as part of the centenary commemorations of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia.

‘In this manner, we seek to extol the virtuous lives of our forebears, who are examples for us of the self-sacrificial Life in Christ that we, too, must seek to exemplify in this world,’ Bishop Irenei continues, ‘and we will provide a means, through this small labour, to educate our children and future generations about those who have walked before them, in their own parish settings, the life of holiness to which all are called.’

Bishop Irenei has committed the initial phases of the project into the faithful care of the Vicar Bishop of the Diocese, His Grace Bishop Alexander of Vevey.

2020-05-08: По инициативе и благословению Правящего Архиерея Его Преосвященства Иринея, епископа Лондонского и Западно-Европейского, наша епархия инициирует проект «Епархиальное наследие», чтобы способствовать более широкому познанию современников о судьбах людей, которые за прошедшее столетие играли значительную роль в ее создании, открытии и деятельности отдельных приходов на территории Великобритании и Западной Европы.

В своем Указе, в котором изложены задачи проекта для духовенства епархии, епископ Ириней особо выделяет «благочестивое желание сохранить память наших предков, предшественников и учителей в вере, которые охотно трудились под игом Христовым, основывая приходы нашей Богохранимой Епархии, сохраняя при этом свою строгую и плодотворную приверженность животворящим заповедям Христа». По этой причине, продолжает Его Преосвященство, епархия предпримет небольшой труд, чтобы развивать знания и воспитать любовь среди тех, кто сейчас и в будущем будут бороться за свое спасение на этих землях, опираясь на те духовные столбы, на которых была основана наша поместная церковь.

В рамках проекта будет собрана подробная информация о лицах из каждого прихода епархии, которые на протяжении своей жизни произвели глубокое впечатление на современников и стали примером для всеобщего православного наследия. «Это могут быть священники-основатели, – пишет Преосвященнейший Владыка, – приснопамятные отцы и духовники, известные старосты или руководители хора и т. д.; но в любом случае это должны быть личности, чей след в истории прихода значителен и заслуживает широкой огласки». Кроме того, новые приходы будут отмечать святых, а также значимых деятелей в истории Зарубежной Церкви, которые вдохновили их миссионерское усердие и нынешнюю деятельность. Эти биографии вместе с фотографиями и исторической информацией о самих приходах будут в надлежащее время изданы в трехъязычном (русском, английском и французском) издании, опубликованном в рамках празднования столетия Русской Православной Церкви заграницей.

«Таким образом, мы стремимся представить поучительные жизнеописания наших предшественников, которые являются для нас примером самоотверженной жизни во Христе, которую мы в этом мире также должны осуществить, являя добродетельный пример окружающим, –  подчёркивает епископ Ириней,  – с помощью этого небольшого труда мы также предоставим средства для назидания нашим детям и будущим поколениям о тех, кто служил перед ними, о приходских условиях в предшествующие эпохи, о жизни и святости, к которой призвано все человечество».

Епископ Ириней передал первоначальную фазу проекта на попечение викарию Его Преосвященству епископу Вевейскому Александру.

2020-05-08: À l’initiative de l’évêque dirigeant, Monseigneur Irenei de Londres et d’Europe occidentale, le diocèse lance un projet de patrimoine diocésain, afin de favoriser une plus large connaissance des individus qui ont joué un rôle important dans la fondation, l’établissement et la vie des paroisses du diocèse de Grande-Bretagne et de l’Europe occidentale au cours du siècle dernier.

Dans son décret définissant les contours du projet pour le clergé du diocèse, Mgr Irenei vante le « la volonté pieuse de préserver la mémoire de nos précurseurs, ancêtres et maîtres dans la foi qui avaient travaillé de plein gré sous le joug du Christ pour fonder les paroisses de ce diocèse gardé par Dieu et maintenir une stricte et bénéfique adhésion aux commandements du Christ ». Pour cette raison, poursuit Mgr Irénée, le diocèse entreprendra un petit travail « dont le but sera d’entretenir la connaissance et l’amour parmi ceux qui dans ces pays œuvrent pour leur salut sur la voie des piliers sur lesquels a été fondée notre église locale ».

Le projet collectera des informations détaillées sur les individus de chacune des paroisses du diocèse qui, au cours de son histoire, ont marqué profondément sa vie et ont illustré le patrimoine orthodoxe. « Ceux-ci peuvent être le prêtre fondateur », écrit Mgr Irénée, « un père spirituel ou un confesseur mémorable, un starosta remarquable, un chef de chœur, etc. ; cependant, dans tous les cas, ils doivent être des personnes dont la trace dans l’histoire de la paroisse est considérable et digne de haute estime ». De plus, les nouvelles paroisses enregistreront les saints et des personnages importants dans l’histoire de l’Église à l’étranger, qui ont inspiré le zèle missionnaire qui sous-tend leur vie. Ces biographies, ainsi que des photographies et des informations historiques sur les paroisses elles-mêmes, seront publiées en temps voulu dans une publication trilingue (russe, anglais et français), publiée dans le cadre des commémorations du centenaire de l’Église orthodoxe russe en à l’étranger.

« De cette manière, nous voulons célébrer les vies vertueuses de nos ancêtres qui représentent pour nous des exemples de vie dévouée au Christ que nous devons tenter de reproduire dans ce monde », poursuit Mgr Irenei, « et de plus, nous allons créer par ce modeste travail un moyen d’éduquer nos enfants et les générations futures par l’exemple de ceux qui ont vécu avant eux dans leurs propres paroisses la vie sainte à laquelle nous sommes tous appelés ».

Mgr Irenei a engagé les phases initiales du projet dans les soins fidèles du Vicaire évêque du diocèse, Son Excellence Mgr Alexandre de Vevey.
