On Wednesday, 24th August / 6th September 2023, a regular meeting of the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad was held under the chairmanship of Metropolitan Nicholas of Eastern America and New York. The work of the meeting was undertaken by Metropolitan Mark of Berlin and Germany, Archbishops Kyrill of San Francisco and Western America, Gabriel of Montreal and Canada, and Peter of Chicago and Central America; Bishops Irenei of London and Western Europe and Bishop Theodosy of Seattle.
Having opened the meeting, the Chairman of the Synod of Bishops reported on the celebrations he headed on the twentieth anniversary of the episcopal service of Archbishop Peter, which took place on the Feast of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul in the Intercession Cathedral in Chicago, and the fortieth anniversary of the canonical reception of the Old-Rite community of the Nativity of Christ in Erie (Pennsylvania). His Eminence further reported on his recent visit to the Holy Land, where he venerated the great shrines of Christianity, celebrated the Divine Services, met with His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos III, Archimandrite Roman (Krassovsky), the clergy and monastics of the Russian Spiritual Mission in Jerusalem, and other figures.
His Grace Bishop Irenei, Secretary of the Synod of Bishops for Inter-Orthodox Relations, then gave a report, upon which the archpastors resolved to call the clergy and flock to deep prayer for the persecuted Ukrainian Orthodox Church, led by His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry.
The Synod of Bishops also discussed issues related to the upcoming celebrations of the 75th anniversary of Holy Trinity Theological Seminary in Jordanville and the 30th anniversary of the discovery of the incorrupt relics of the holy wonderworker St John (Maximovich), Archbishop of Shanghai and San Francisco.
The Synod of Bishops blessed the holding of the All-Diaspora Youth Congress in Germany in June 2024.
Then the Synod of Bishops considered various administrative, economic and church-disciplinary issues, as well as the petitions of the archpastors, who nominated a number of clergy and laity of their dioceses for church-wide awards.
At the end of the meeting, Metropolitan Nicholas of Eastern America and New York warmly greeted Bishop Irenei on the occasion of his name day, and Bishop Theodosy on the 15th anniversary of his hierarchal consecration, wishing them good health, stalwart spirits and God’s help in their service to the Church of Christ.
The next meeting of the Holy Synod of Bishops will be timed to coincide with the patronal feast of the Cathedral of the Sign in New York, which falls upon 27th November / 10th December.

В среду, 24 августа / 6 сентября 2023 г., под председательством митрополита Восточно-Американского и Нью-Йоркского Николая прошло заседание Архиерейского Синода Русской Зарубежной Церкви. В работе заседания приняли участие митрополит Берлинский и Германский Марк, архиепископы Сан-Францисский и Западно-Американский Кирилл, Монреальский и Канадский Гавриил и Чикагский и Средне-Американский Петр; епископы Лондонский и Западно-Европейский Ириней и Сиэтлийский Феодосий.
Открыв заседание, Председатель Архиерейского Синода сообщил о возглавленных им торжествах двадцатилетия архиерейского служения архиепископа Петра, прошедших в праздник Первоверховных апостолов Петра и Павла в Покровском кафедральном соборе г. Чикаго, и сорокалетии канонического приема Христо-Рождественской единоверческой общины в Ири (Пенсильвания). Затем Его Высокопреосвященство доложил о своем недавнем посещении Святой Земли, где он поклонялся великим святыням христианства, совершал богослужения, встречался с Блаженнейшим Патриархом Феофилом III, архимандритом Романом (Красовским), духовенством и монашествующими Русской Духовной Миссии в Иерусалиме и другими деятелями.
Выслушав доклад Преосвященного епископа Иринея, секретаря Архиерейского Синода по межправославным отношениям, архипастыри постановили призвать клир и паству к сугубой молитве о гонимой Украинской Православной Церкви во главе с Блаженнейшим митрополитом Онуфрием.
Архиерейский Синод также обсудил вопросы, связанные с предстоящими торжествами 75-летия Свято-Троицкой Духовной Семинарии в Джорданвилле и 30-летия обретения нетленных мощей святителя и чудотворца Иоанна (Максимовича), архиепископа Шанхайского, Сан-Францисского чудотворца.
Архиерейский Синод благословил проведение Всезарубежного съезда молодежи в Германии в июне 2024 года.
Затем Архиерейский Синод рассмотрел различные административно-хозяйственные и церковно-дисциплинарные вопросы, а также и ходатайства Преосвященных архипастырей, представивших ряд клириков и мирян своих епархий к общецерковным наградам.
В завершение заседания митрополит Восточно-Американский и Нью-Йоркский Николай тепло приветствовал епископа Иринея с прошедшим днем тезоименитства, а епископа Феодосия – с 15-летием архиерейской хиротонии, пожелав им крепкого здравия, бодрости духа и помощи Божией в их нелегком служении Христовой Церкви.
Следующее заседание Архиерейского Синода будет приурочено к престольному празднику Знаменского собора в Нью-Йорке, имеющему быть 27 ноября/10 декабря.
