SUNDAY 10 / 23 JULY 2023: On the Sunday following the Feast of the Holy New-Martyrs Elisabeth and Barbara, their sacred memory was honoured in the Altar dedicated to St Elisabeth in Wallasey, England.

The Parish Rector, Archpriest Paul Elliott, who had travelled to London earlier in the week to join in the celebrations of the Feast of the Holy Royal Martyrs (the Altar Feast of the lower church in the Diocesan Cathedral), returned to the North in order to prepare the parish for the annual celebration of the memory of its heavenly protectress. On Saturday evening, His Grace Bishop Irenei of London and Western Europe was welcomed into the beautiful temple and headed the evening Divine Services together with Father Paul and the local clergy, after which the archpastor had time to visit with the Priests, matushki, and others in the parish.

On Sunday morning, Vladyka Irenei was greeted in the festal custom at the doors of the temple by the starosta, whereupon he was vested for the Divine Liturgy in honour of the feastday of St Anthony the Great of Kiev and the Day of the Placing of the Robe of the Saviour, to which commemorations were also added the extended festal memory of St Elisabeth. Co-serving His Grace were Archpriest Paul Elliott, together with Priest Justin Venn and Priest Alexander Groves (from the St Leonard’s Parish), as well as Deacon Andrei Borisas (from the London Cathedral) and Deacon Alban Illingworth (from the Durham mission).

During the Third Hour, the pious altarnik of St Elisabeth’s Parish, Oswald Siddall, was tonsured as Reader.

The Liturgy proceeded in a joyful and reverent spirit, sung by the parish choir under the direction of Matushka Elisabeth, who also celebrated her namesday. A portion of the service was sung by a children’s choir, which was a source of special joy and inspiration to the faithful.

In his sermon, Bishop Irenei called to mind the mystery of the Eucharist, and the immense gift of God’s mercy, that faithful in each place and point in history — including in a parish in the north of England — can have access not only to the joy of each other’s company and support, but to the immediate presence of God, the Creator of All, Who comes into our hearts and bodies in the divine Mysteries of the Church. And indeed, a great multitude partook of those Mysteries at the service, with a very large congregation present for the feast, of whom the majority received the Body and Blood of Christ.

At the conclusion of the Divine Services, a Cross Procession was held and a moleben served in honour of St Elisabeth, after which Archpriest Paul Elliott greeted Vladyka Irenei on behalf of the parish, and offered inspiring words to the faithful on the importance of their sacred and unified life.

Faithful and visitors gathered together with the clergy in the Parish Rectory to continue the joy of the feast with fraternal conversation throughout the afternoon, which included a musical interlude sung by parishioners from Ukraine, Russia and elsewhere.

At the end of the joyful afternoon, Bishop departed for London.

ВОСКРЕСЕНЬЕ 10 / 23 ИЮЛЯ 2023 ГОДА: В воскресенье, следующее за праздником святых новомучениц вл. кн. Елисаветы и инокини Варвары, в храме на честь святой Елизаветы в Уолласи, Англия, была совершена их светлая память.

Настоятель прихода протоиерей Павел Эллиот, выехавший в начале недели в Лондон для участия в престольных торжествах по случаю праздника Святых Царственных Мучеников (Праздник нижнего храма Кафедрального собора), вернулся на Север, чтобы подготовить приход к ежегодному празднованию памяти его небесной покровительницы. В субботу вечером Преосвященнейший епископ Лондонский и Западно-Европейский Ириней был встречен в этом великолепном храме и возглавил вечернее богослужение вместе с отцом Павлом и местным духовенством, после чего Архипастырь успел побеседовать в приходе со священниками, матушками и приходским активом.

В воскресное утро владыка Ириней был по праздничному обычаю встречен у дверей храма старостой, после чего облачен для Божественной литургии в честь праздника преподобного Антония Киево-Печерского и Положения Ризы Спасителя, к которым прибавилась и расширенное празднование св. Елизаветы. Его Преосвященству сослужили протоиерей Павел Эллиот вместе со иереями Иустином Венном и священником Александром Гровсом (от Свято-Леонардовского прихода), а также диаконом Андреем Борисасом (из Лондонского собора) и диаконом Албаном Иллингвортом (от Даремской миссии).

Во время Третьего часа был пострижен во чтецы благочестивый алтарник прихода св. Елизаветы Освальд Сиддалл.

Литургия прошла в радостном и благоговейном духе в исполнении приходского хора под управлением матушки Елизаветы, которая также праздновала в этот день свой День Ангела. Часть службы пропел детский хор, что стало для верующих особым источником радости и вдохновения.

В своей проповеди епископ Ириней напомнил о таинстве Евхаристии и о безмерном даре Божия милосердия, что верные в каждом месте и моменте истории, в том числе и в приходе на севере Англии, могут иметь доступ не только к радости общения и поддержки друг друга, но и к непосредственному присутствию Бога, Творца Всего, Который входит в наши сердца и тела в Божественных Таинствах Церкви. И действительно, за богослужением великое множество прихожан приобщилось Святых Христовых Тайн. При весьма многочисленном собрании верующих, большинство из них приняли Тело и Кровь Христовы.

По окончании богослужения был совершен крестный ход и отслужен молебен в честь святой Елизаветы, после чего протоиерей Павел Эллиот приветствовал владыку Иринея от имени прихода и сказал верующим воодушевляющие слова о важности их священного единения в церковной жизни.

После окончания богослужения прихожане и гости собрались вместе с духовенством в приходском зале, чтобы продолжить радость праздника братской беседой в течение всего дня, включавшей певческо-хоровую концертную программу в исполнении прихожан из Украины, России и других стран.

В вечеру этого радостного дня Архиерей отбыл в Лондон.
