On Wednesday 26th April / 9th May 2018 His Grace Bishop Irenei visted the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad Parish of Holy Prince Vladimir, Cheltenham in Gloucestershire, and served a Moleben and Akathist to the Mother of God and the Great Martyr and Trophy-bearer, Saint George the patron of England, in honour of the saint’s heavenly protection of these lands as well as the commemoration for all fallen warriors, comemorated on this day at the same time as the ‘Day of Victory’ festivities around the world.
His Grace was co-served during the Divine Service by Hieromonk Mark (Underwood), the Priest of the parish, and parishioners came from near and further afield to pray and to listen to a talk about the nature of faith, the overcoming of fear, and the sacred tradtions of the Church that help transform our life amidst the struggles of modern society.
The evening concluded with a fasting meal provided by the parishioners.
