16 – 21 MARCH 2022: After two years of restrictions upon international travels during Great Lent, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the present year has provided new possibilities, and in accordance with the Diocese’s schedule of Unction Services for this Great Lent, both hierarchs have resumed the practice of extensive travels during the Fast, to serve the sacred rite in many places. As part of these journeys, the Vicar of the Diocese of Great Britain and Western Europe, His Grace Bishop Alexander of Vevey, visited the parishes of Benelux to celebrate there this Sacrament.
His Grace’s journey began on Wednesday 16th March 2022 with a visit to the Saint Job Parish in Brussels (the Memorial Church) where, in concelebration with Archpriest Leonid Grilikhès and Priest Vassili Orekhoff, the Holy Mystery of unction was conferred on nearly 70 faithful.
The following day, in same capital city of Belgium, Vladyka Alexander celebrated the rite again at the Parish of the Resurrection of Christ, with Archpriest Stefan Weerts. There, in a pronounced atmosphere of unity, some thirty people were anointed.
On Friday the 18th, the Bishop of Vevey traveled onwards to Holland and the city of Arnhem, again with Father Stefan, who serves as rector of the Church of the Protection of the Mother of God in that place. There too, several dozen faithful gathered for this rite.
On Monday the 21st, General Unction was once again celebrated, this time in the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul in Luxembourg, where Vladyka Alexander, accompanied by Priest Georges Machtalère, rector of the Parish, administered the Sacrament of Holy Oil to well over a hundred parishioners.

16 – 21 MARS 2022: Après deux ans de restrictions sur les voyages internationaux lors du Grand Carême à cause de la pandémie du Covid-19, l’année en cours a offert de nouvelles possibilités, et conformément au calendrier diocésain des services de la Grande Onction, les deux hiérarques ont repris la pratique de voyages pendant le carême, pour célébrer ce rite sacré en de nombreux endroits. Dans le cadre de ces voyages, le vicaire du Diocèse de Grande-Bretagne et d’Europe occidentale, Monseigneur Alexandre, évêque de Vevey, a visité les paroisses du Benelux afin d’y célébrer ce Sacrement.
Son périple a débuté le mercredi 16 mars 2022 avec la visite de l’église Saint Job de Bruxelles (Eglise-Mémorial) où, en concélébration avec l’archiprêtre Leonid Grilikhès et le prêtre Vassili Orekhoff, le Sacrement a été conféré à près de 70 fidèles.
Le lendemain, dans cette même ville, Vladyka Alexandre a célébré à l’église de la Résurrection du Christ avec l’archiprêtre Stefan Weerts ; dans une atmosphère très recueillie, une trentaine de personnes ont reçu l’Onction.
Et le vendredi 18, l’évêque Alexandre s’est rendu en Hollande, à Arnhem, avec le père Stefan recteur de l’église de la Protection de la Mère de Dieu. Là aussi quelques dizaines fidèles se sont réunis pour ce rituel.
Le lundi 21, c’est dans l’église des Saints Apôtres Pierre et Paul de Luxembourg que Vladyka Alexandre, accompagné du père Georges Machtalère, a donné le Sacrement de l’Huile Sainte à plus de cents paroissiens.
