10 / 23 DECEMBER 2024: On the Monday of the 27th week after Pentecost, Orthodox youth from across Western Europe and Great Britain concluded their conference in London. Having arrived into the UK capital on the feastday of St Nicholas the Wonderworker, and basing their activities in London’s Cathedral of the Nativity of the Mother of God and Holy Royal Martyrs, more than 80 youth from nine countries spent five days together in worship, prayer, activities, talks and lectures, social events, masterclasses and workshops, excursions, and a host of other activities.

During the course of the conference, the youth heard spiritual talks by several members of the Church’s hierarchy and clergy, including talks by His Grace Bishop Irenei of London and Western Europe, Archpriest Pavel Tsvetkoff (of the Geneva Cathedral), Archpriest Quentin de Castelbajac (Lyon Parish, France), Priest Aleksandr Groves (St Leonard’s Parish, England), and Priest Mark Tattum-Smith (Mettingham Parish, England). Contributions were also offered, including round table question-and-answer sessions, by Archpriest Vitaly Serapinas, Archpriest Yaroslav Hudymenko and Hieromonk Theodore (Stanway), all of the London Cathedral; as well as by Priest Alexander Volokhan, a guest of the Diocese and cleric of the Patriarchate in Norway.

Amongst activities and social events that included an excursion to the city’s ’Winter Wonderland’ and talent shows, the youth also participated in workshops that ranged from serving and reading in the Church, to decorating churches and making floral arrangements for icons.

At the heart of the conference were the Divine Services of the weekend, at which the Feast of the Conception of the Mother of God was prayerfully marked. Several participants served in the Altar and read from the Apostle in Slavonic, French and English (the three principal languages of the Diocese), several joined the Cathedral choir to sing, and all prayed in the Cathedral that had been beautifully decorated with flowers arranged by the youth. A special highlight came at the end of the Divine Liturgy, following a homily by Hieromonk Theodore and a greeting by Bishop Irenei, as the youth piously and joyfully sang carols for the pre-Nativity season as the faithful came to venerate the Cross.

In his closing exhortation to the conference, Vladyka Irenei congratulated the youth for their evident zeal for the Life in Christ, and encouraged them to depart homewards with hearts filled with joy, strength, and a readiness to implement new youth activities in their home parishes across Europe.

10 / 23 ДЕКАБРЯ 2024 г.: В понедельник 27-й седмицы по Пятидесятнице православная молодежь из Западной Европы и Великобритании завершила свой съезд в Лондоне. Прибыв в британскую столицу в праздник святителя Николая чудотворца и организовав свою деятельность на базе Лондонского кафедрального собора Рождества Пресвятой Богородицы и Святых Царственных Мучеников, более 80 молодых людей из девяти стран провели вместе пять дней, наполненных богослужениями, молитвой, мероприятиями, лекциями и докладами, мастер-классами, экскурсиями и множеством других активностей.

В рамках съезда молодежь услышала духовные наставления от нескольких представителей церковной иерархии и духовенства, в том числе доклады епископа Лондонского и Западно-Европейского Иринея, протоиерея Павла Цветкова (из Женевского кафедрального собора), протоиерея Квентина де Кастельбажака (прихода в Лионе, Франция), священника Александра Гроувса (прихода в Сент-Леонарде, Англия) и священника Марка Таттум-Смита (прихода в Меттингеме, Англия). Были также проведены круглые столы с вопросами и ответами, на которых выступили протоиереи Виталий Серапинас и Ярослав Гудыменко, а также иеромонах Феодор (Стэнуэй), служащие Лондонского собора, и священник Александр Волохань, гость епархии и клирик Патриархии в Норвегии.

Среди мероприятий и встреч, включавших экскурсию в «Зимнюю страну чудес» и конкурс талантов, молодежь участвовала в мастер-классах, охватывающих темы от служения и чтения в храме до украшения храмов и составления цветочных композиций для икон.

В центре съезда находились Богослужения выходных дней, во время которых молитвенно отмечалось праздник Зачатия Пресвятой Богородицы. Несколько участников съезда помогали в Алтаре и читали Апостол на церковнославянском, французском и английском языках (трех основных языках епархии), другие присоединились к соборному хору, а все вместе молились в соборе, который был украшен цветами, составленными молодежью. Особенным моментом стало пение колядок в предрождественский период в конце Божественной литургии, после проповеди иеромонаха Феодора и приветствия епископа Иринея, когда верующие подходили для целования Креста.

В своем заключительном наставлении на съезде владыка Ириней поздравил молодежь с их очевидным усердием к Жизни во Христе и призвал их возвращаться домой с радостью, силой и готовностью развивать новые молодежные инициативы в своих приходах по всей Европе.

10 / 23 DÉCEMBRE 2024 : Le lundi de la 27ᵉ semaine après la Pentecôte, le Congrès de la jeunesse orthodoxe d’Europe occidentale et de Grande-Bretagne s’est achevé à Londres.

Arrivés dans la capitale britannique le jour de la fête de saint Nicolas le Thaumaturge et ayant basé leurs activités à la cathédrale de la Nativité de la Mère de Dieu et des Saints Martyrs Impériaux, plus de 80 jeunes venus de neuf pays ont passé cinq jours ensemble, consacrés à la prière, aux offices divins, à des conférences et des discussions spirituelles, des événements sociaux, des ateliers, des masterclasses, des excursions, ainsi qu’à d’autres activités enrichissantes.

Au cours de la conférence, les jeunes ont eu la bénédiction d’écouter des interventions spirituelles de membres du clergé et de l’épiscopat. Parmi les conférenciers figuraient Son Excellence l’Évêque Irénée de Londres et de l’Europe occidentale, le Très Révérend Archiprêtre Pavel Tsvetkoff (de la cathédrale de Genève), le Très Révérend Archiprêtre Quentin de Castelbajac (paroisse de Lyon, France), le Révérend Père Alexandre Groves (paroisse de St Leonards, Angleterre), et le Révérend Père Mark Tattum-Smith (paroisse de Mettingham, Angleterre). D’autres contributions, y compris des sessions de questions-réponses en table ronde, ont été offertes par le Très Révérend Archiprêtre Vitaly Serapinas, le Très Révérend Archiprêtre Yaroslav Hudymenko et le Hiéromoine Théodore (Stanway), tous trois membres du clergé de la cathédrale de Londres, ainsi que par le Révérend Père Alexandre Volokhan, invité du diocèse et clerc du Patriarcat en Norvège.

En marge des événements sociaux, qui comprenaient notamment une excursion au «Winter Wonderland» de la ville et des spectacles de talents, les participants ont également pris part à des ateliers variés, allant du service liturgique et de la lecture à la décoration d’églises et à la réalisation de compositions florales pour les icônes.

Au cœur de la conférence se trouvaient les offices divins du week-end, marqués par la célébration priante de la fête de la Conception de la Mère de Dieu. Plusieurs participants ont servi dans l’Autel ou lu l’Épître en slavon, en français et en anglais (les trois principales langues de l’Éparchie). D’autres se sont joints à la chorale de la cathédrale pour chanter, tandis que tous ont prié dans une cathédrale magnifiquement décorée de fleurs arrangées par les jeunes eux-mêmes. Un moment particulièrement marquant a eu lieu à la fin de la Divine Liturgie : après une homélie du Hiéromoine Théodore et une allocution de Mgr Irénée, les jeunes ont chanté des cantiques de la période pré-natale avec piété et joie, tandis que les fidèles venaient vénérer la Croix.

Dans son exhortation de clôture, Vladyka Irénée a félicité les jeunes pour leur zèle manifeste pour la Vie en Christ, les encourageant à rentrer chez eux le cœur rempli de joie, de force et de détermination à mettre en œuvre de nouvelles activités pour la jeunesse dans leurs paroisses respectives à travers l’Europe.
