On Sunday, the final day of the Kursk-root icon’s presence in the Diocese was solemnly marked in the London Cathedral.

24 NOVEMBER / 7 DECEMBER 2025: On the feastday of the Great Martyr Catherine, the 26th Sunday after Pentecost, the Divine Liturgy was headed in the London Cathedral by His Grace Bishop Irenei of London and Western Europe, co-served by the Cathedral clergy and guest clerics.
The occasion marked the final day of the Kursk-root icon’s visit to the Diocese of Great Britain and Western Europe, and enormous numbers of faithful were present in the Cathedral to receive the Divine Mysteries of Christ and venerate the sacred, wonderworking image of His Mother.
At the conclusion of the Liturgy, Vladyka Irenei addressed the faithful with a homily in which he called all to rejoice in the ever-present love of the Theotokos. ‘Her icon may be departing from us now,’ Vladyka preached, ‘but the Mother of God never leaves us. She is our mother, we her children, and she will never depart from those who honour her and follow with true Faith her divine Son. So rejoice, beloved children of the Church, that we experience such great love and grace; and may this experience be a support for lives of devotion that never waver or grow weak!’
Following the Divine Services, the Cathedral Sisterhood served a wonderful banquet to all the gathered clergy and faithful, in honour of the icon’s visitation. During the meal, Bishop Irenei was congratulated with his birthday; the faithful Sister Ekaterina was congratulated with her namesday; and two youth of the Cathedral, Thomas and Anna, were congratulated with their engagement.

24 НОЯБРЯ / 7 ДЕКАБРЯ 2025 г.: В день памяти святой великомученицы Екатерины, в двадцать шестое воскресенье по Пятидесятнице, Божественная литургия в Лондонском кафедральном соборе была возглавлена Его Преосвященством епископом Лондонским и Западно-Европейским Иринеем, в сослужении соборного духовенства и прибывших клириков-гостей.
Сей день ознаменовал заключение посещения Великобританской и Западно-Европейской епархии Курско-коренной иконой, и великое множество верных наполнило собор, дабы причаститься Божественных Таин Христовых и поклониться священной, чудотворной иконе Пречистой Матери Божией.
По завершении Божественной литургии владыка Ириней обратился к молящимся с архипастырским словом, призвав всех к радости о непрестанной любви Пресвятой Богородицы. «Ея икона ныне отходит от нас, — проповедовал владыка, — но Матерь Божия никогда нас не оставляет. Она — наша Мать, мы — Ея чада, и Она не отступит от тех, кто поклоняется Ей и с истинною верою следует за Ее Божественным Сыном. Радуйтесь же, возлюбленные чада Церкви, что сподобляемся столь велия любви и благодати; и да будет сие укреплением для жизни благочестия, неуклонной и неослабевающей».
По окончании богослужений сестричество собора преподнесло всем собравшимся клирикам и верным праздничную трапезу в честь посещения святыни. Во время общей трапезы владыка Ириней был поздравлен с днем его рождения; раба Божия Екатерина — с днем ее тезоименитства; а юные чада собора, Фома и Анна, — с их обручением.
