28 SEPTEMBER / 11 OCTOBER 2025: On the feast day of the relics of the Holy New Martyr and Grand Duchess Elisabeth, His Grace Bishop Irenei of London and Western Europe took part in the Divine Services at the women’s monastery in the saint’s honour in Buchendorf, Germany. The occasion marked the twentieth anniversary of the founding of the convent, which is under the spiritual care of Abbess Maria.
Heading the Divine Services on Friday and Saturday were His Eminence Metropolitan Mark of Berlin and Germany, His Grace Bishop Irenei of London and Western Europe, and His Grace Bishop Job of Stuttgart, together with Priests and Deacons serving at the monastery and in nearby parishes. On Saturday morning His Eminence Archbishop Tikhon of the Patriarchal Diocese in Germany also served at the Liturgy. Present in the temple, together with the convent’s community of nuns and supporters, were also the Abbesses of the ROCOR’s chief monasteries in the Holy Land — Abbess Elisabeth of the Gethsemane Convent, and Abbess Tabitha of the Convent on the Mount of Olives. The Reverend Mothers were further joined by Abbess Martha of the large Convent of Mary and Martha in Moldova, and many pilgrims.
After the Liturgy, Vladyka Irenei preached a sermon in honour of St Elisabeth, reflecting upon her spiritual influence on the lives of the nuns over the past two decades and encouraging Abbess Maria and her sisters in Christ in their continuing mission to the Church, which abides through the prayers of those who dedicate themselves to the full life of the Gospel. After the Liturgy and moleben to the saint, Vladyka Mark presented several gramata on behalf of the Abbess. Amongst the honoured recipients were Deacon Pavel Lisitsin, who had travelled to Buchendorf from London with Vladyka Irenei, and who has been a consistent supporter of the monastery since its founding.
A festal trapeza was held in the main monastery hall, at which the life of St Elisabeth was read as, in monastic custom, the meal proceeded in silence. After the reading, Vladyka Mark congratulated the Abbess and sisters and spoke of the necessity of spiritual podvig in this generation. Word of congratulation were then spoken, and Vladyka Irenei presented Abbess Maria with two hand-painted icons, as a gift from the Diocese.
28 СЕНТЯБРЯ / 11 ОКТЯБРЯ 2025 г.: В день празднования перенесения мощей святой новомученицы, великой княгини Елисаветы, Преосвященнейший епископ Лондонский и Западно-Европейский Ириней принял участие в торжественных богослужениях в женском монастыре во имя святой в Бухендорфе, Германия. Празднование было приурочено к двадцатилетию основания обители, находящейся под духовным окормлением игумении Марии.
Богослужения в пятницу и субботу возглавили Высокопреосвященнейший митрополит Берлинский и Германский Марк, Преосвященнейший епископ Лондонский и Западно-Европейский Ириней и Преосвященнейший епископ Штутгартский Иов, в сослужении иереев и диаконов монастыря и окрестных приходов. В субботу утром на Божественной литургии также служил Высокопреосвященнейший архиепископ Тихон, управляющий Патриаршими приходами в Германии. В храме, вместе с сестринством монастыря и многочисленными богомольцами, присутствовали также настоятельницы главных монастырей Русской Зарубежной Церкви на Святой Земле — игумения Елисавета из Гефсиманской обители и игумения Тавиф из монастыря на Елеонской горе. К ним присоединилась игумения Марфа из монастыря Марфы и Марии в Молдове, а также многие паломники.
По окончании Литургии Владыка Ириней произнес проповедь в честь святой Елисаветы, размышляя о ее духовном влиянии на жизнь сестер в течение прошедших двадцати лет и вдохновляя игумению Марию и ее сестер во Христе на продолжение их миссии в Церкви, которая пребывает и укрепляется молитвами тех, кто полностью посвятил себя Евангелской жизни. После Литургии и молебна Владыка Марк вручил граматы от имени игумении. Среди удостоенных был диакон Павел Лисицын, прибывший в Бухендорф из Лондона вместе с Владыкой Иринеем и являющийся постоянным помощником монастыря с момента его основания.
Праздничная трапеза состоялась в главном монастырском зале. Согласно монастырскому уставу, трапеза проходила в молчании, во время которого читалось житие святой Елисаветы. По окончании чтения Владыка Марк поздравил игумению и сестер, напомнив о необходимости духовного подвига в наше время. Затем были произнесены слова поздравления, и Владыка Ириней преподнес игумении Марии в дар от епархии две написанные вручную иконы.
