By a decision of the Holy Synod of Bishops of 26 November / 9 December 2025, the ancient Parish of the Archangel Michael in Cannes, on the Côte d’Azure in France, has been transferred from stavropegial to diocesan status, and thereby returns to its historic place as a parish of the Western European Diocese. His Grace Bishop Irenei of London and Western Europe joyfully welcomed the news, and on the Feastday of the Kursk-root icon shared it with the clergy of the Diocese.

The Parish of the Archangel Michael is served by the Reverend Priest Antony Odayski, and has a thriving community of faithful that have remained united and strong, despite the challenges they have faced in terms of the use of the ancient temple in which the Parish has worshipped for generations. Property disputes over that building were the motivation for the parish being taken temporarily into stavropegial status, so as to receive more direct assistance from the Holy Synod of Bishops; but these never interrupted the worshipping life of the community, which has for some years worshipped in other locations in Cannes whilst awaiting the eventual return to their historic home.

Recently, the wonderworking Kursk-root icon was taken into the historic temple and a moleben with Akathist served on the territory of the Church, by the generous aid of the Consul General. The parish and its Priest, and indeed the faithful of the whole Diocese, eagerly await the final resolution of the property issues and — through the fraternal aid of the Patriarchate in working together for the cause — the return of the church building to the use of the Church Abroad and the parish’s restoration to its normal worshipping life in its ancient home.

По определению Святейшего Архиерейского Синода от 26 ноября / 9 декабря 2025 года древний приход Архангела Михаила в Каннах, на Лазурном берегу Франции, был переведен из ставропигиального в епархиальный статус и тем самым возвращен на свое историческое место в составе Западно-Европейской епархии. Его Преосвященство епископ Лондонский и Западно-Европейский Ириней с духовной радостью воспринял эту весть и в день праздника Курско-коренной иконы Божией Матери сообщил о ней духовенству епархии.

Приход Архангела Михаила окормляется священником Антонием Одайским и имеет деятельную и крепкую общину верных, которые, несмотря на испытания, связанные с пользованием древним храмом, в котором приход молился на протяжении многих поколений, сохранили единство и стойкость. Имущественные споры вокруг этого храма послужили причиной временного перевода прихода в ставропигиальный статус с целью получения более непосредственной помощи со стороны Святейшего Синода; однако они никогда не прерывали богослужебной жизни общины, которая на протяжении уже нескольких лет совершает богослужения в иных местах в Каннах, ожидая окончательного возвращения в свой исторический дом.

Недавно, по благосклонному содействию Генерального консула, чудотворная Курско-коренная икона была внесена в древний храм, и на церковной территории был совершен молебен с акафистом. Приход и его пастырь, равно как и верные всей епархии, с надеждой ожидают окончательного разрешения имущественных вопросов и — при братской помощи Патриархии в совместных трудах ради этого дела — возвращения храма в пользование Зарубежной Церкви и восстановления нормальной богослужебной жизни прихода в его древнем доме.
