To the archpastors, pastors, monastics, and all faithful children of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church:

Christ is Risen!

With these eternally living words, I heartily greet you all, God-loving archpastors and pastors, pious monks and nuns, dear brothers and sisters, with our greatest Christian feast of the Resurrection of our Lord, God, and Saviour Jesus Christ.

The Lord has visited us with a special trial and sorrow this year. The forces of evil have gathered over us. But we neither murmur nor despair, because Christ the Saviour has overcome evil by His Resurrection.

The most glorious Resurrection of Christ is a celebration of the triumph of good over evil, truth over falsehood, light over darkness. The Resurrection of Christ is the eternal Pascha, in which Christ our Saviour and Lord translated us from death to life, from hell to Paradise.

God, our Almighty Creator, created man from the earth, breathed the breath of life into his face and adorned him with His divine image. Unfortunately, man deprived himself of this high honour when he turned away from divine Love. Man willingly became a victim of death. The death that the Lord allowed for fallen man was not the revenge of God, but a manifestation of a new divine love for fallen man: by death, the Lord cut off human sin, not allowing evil to become immortal. But when the Lord destroyed human sin on the Cross, He also took away the power of death. After the Resurrection of Christ, death turned from ever-reigning into a temporary sleep, the quality of which depends upon the moral quality of our earthly life.

By His incarnation, voluntary suffering, and death upon the Cross, the Son of God, our Saviour, returned Paradise lost to us, and by His most glorious Resurrection, the Saviour made Paradise accessible to all. The doors of Paradise now open not from the inside, but from the outside, and every man has received a key he can and should use to open Paradise. The key that opens the gates of holy Paradise is repentance. By repentance, the wise thief opened the doors of Paradise for himself and heard the joyous words of Christ the Saviour: Today shalt thou be with Me in Paradise (Luke 23.43).

How blessed were those who were vouchsafed the great honour of seeing the incarnate God, of hearing His holy words and seeing His wondrous miracles. Yet more blessed were the holy Myrrh-bearing Women when they saw the angel sitting on the stone by the Saviour’s empty tomb, who told them: Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, Which was crucified. He is not here: for He is risen (Matthew 28.5, 6). Yet even more blessed are those who haven’t seen the Saviour with bodily eyes, but who believe in Him as the Son of God, as the Saviour of the world.

The news of the Resurrection of Christ comforted not only the holy Myrrh-bearing Women and the Apostles, but it became the joy of the whole world. Human hearts, which received the truth of Christ’s Resurrection by faith, were filled with a new grace-filled power, which instilled in people a bright hope of returning to Paradise and strengthened people in the fight against the evil that existed in the world.

Many people have so sincerely believed in the resurrected Christ that they have completely given themselves to the service of God. They cleansed themselves of sin by repentance and united with their Creator, they humbled themselves under the will of the powerful God, and themselves became strong, becoming spiritual heroes. The holy Church calls such people ‘earthly angels’.

And there are earthly angels in the world today, strong spiritual warriors who, by faith in the Risen Christ, overcome evil, and for whose sake the Lord has mercy upon all of us sinners. Such holy ascetics are often around us, but we are not interested in them because we don’t see them. We believe the world lives for the sake of our economic, political, scientific, and other achievements, but in reality, the world lives for the sake of those righteous ones who have made room for the Resurrected Christ in their hearts — the Strong and Mighty God Who made them strong and mighty. Such people sacrificially love the entire world, they pray for us, and for their sake the Lord sends us, the unworthy ones, His mercy and generosity.

Today we humbly thank our Holy Creator that the word of the crucified and Resurrected Christ has reached our land. This saving Gospel was brought to our land by the holy Apostle Andrew the First-called. The holy Apostle Andrew taught us to believe in the Resurrected Christ, the Son of God, the Saviour of the world; he taught us to live according to the holy Divine covenants and by such a life to testify to our love for God, Who so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3.16).

May every one of us, dear brothers and sisters, reasonably compel ourselves to build our lives on the sacred covenants of the Resurrected Christ, our God and Saviour. Whoever lives according to the precepts of God protects not only himself from destruction, but also the surrounding world. Therefore, let us try to live in such a way that we might be the keepers of the world, not its destroyers.

Once again, I congratulate you all, dear brothers and sisters, with the Feast of the glorious Resurrection of Christ, with the great triumph of the victory of life over death. I wish unto all health, peace, happiness and salvation. May the Light of Life, that shone from the Life-bearing tomb illuminate our minds and grant us the power to love God and each other, so that today, celebrating the Resurrection of Christ, we may humbly worship the holy Lord Jesus, and, together with the angels sing the victorious song of Holy Pascha: ‘Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and upon those in the tombs bestowing life’ (Tropar of Pascha). Amen.

Христос Воскресе!

Этими вечно живыми словами сердечно поздравляю всех Вас, боголюбивые архипастыри и пастыри, благочестивые иноки и инокини, дорогие братья и сестры, с наибольшим нашим христианским Праздником Воскресения Господа Бога и Спасителя нашего Иисуса Христа.

В этом году Господь посетил нас особенным испытанием и скорбью. Силы зла сгустились над нами. Но мы не ропщем и не унываем, потому что Своим Воскресением Христос Спаситель победил зло.

Преславное Воскресение Христово — это Праздник торжества победы добра над злом, правды над неправдой, света над тьмой. Воскресение Христово — это вечная Пасха, в которой Христос, наш Спаситель и Господь, перевел нас от смерти к жизни, от ада в Рай.

Бог, Всемогущий наш Творец и Создатель, сотворил человека из земли, вдунул в лицо его дыхание жизни и украсил его Своим Божественным образом. К сожалению, человек лишил себя этой высокой чести, когда он отвернулся от Божественной Любви. Человек добровольно стал жертвой смерти. Смерть, которую Господь попустил падшему человеку, не была местью Бога, это было проявление новой Божественной Любви к падшему человеку: смертью Господь пресекал человеческий грех и не позволял злу стать бессмертным. Но когда Господь уничтожил человеческий грех на Кресте, тогда Господь отнял силу и у смерти. После Воскресения Христова смерть из вечно царствующей превратилась в кратковременный сон, качество которого зависит от морального качества нашей земной жизни.

Своим воплощением, вольными страданиями и смертью на Кресте Сын Божий, наш Спаситель, вернул нам потерянный Рай, а Своим Преславным Воскресением Спаситель сделал Рай доступным для каждого человека. Райские двери теперь открываются не изнутри, а снаружи, и каждый человек получил ключ, которым он может и должен открывать Рай. Ключом, которым открываются врата святого Рая, является покаяние. Покаянием благоразумный разбойник открыл себе Райские двери и услышал радостные слова Христа Спасителя: «Сегодня будешь со Мною в Раю» (Лк. 23, 43).

Как блаженны были те люди, кто сподобился великой чести видеть воплощенного Бога, слышать Его святые слова и видеть Его дивные чудеса. Еще более блаженными были святые Жены Мироносицы, когда увидели Ангела, который сидел на камне возле пустого Гроба Спасителя и который сказал им: «Не бойтесь, ибо знаю, что вы ищете Иисуса Распятого. Его нет здесь — Он воскрес!» (Мф. 28, 5–6). Но еще более блаженными стали те, кто не видел Спасителя телесными глазами, но уверовал в Него как Сына Божия, как Спасителя мира.

Весть о Воскресении Христа утешила не только святых Жен Мироносиц и Апостолов, она стала радостью для всего мира. Человеческие сердца, которые верой восприняли истину Христова Воскресения, наполнялись новой благодатной силой, которая вселяла в людей светлую надежду возвращения в Рай и укрепляла людей в борьбе со злом, которое существовало в мире.

Много людей настолько искренне уверовали в Воскресшего Христа, что они полностью отдали себя на служение Богу. Они покаянием очистили себя от греха и соединились со своим Творцом, они смирили себя под волю сильного Бога, и сами стали сильными, они стали духовными героями. Святая Церковь таких людей называет земными Ангелами.

И сегодня в мире есть земные Ангелы, сильные духовные воины, которые верой в Воскресшего Христа побеждают зло и ради которых Господь милует всех нас, грешников. Такие святые подвижники часто находятся рядом с нами, но мы ими не интересуемся, поэтому мы их не видим. Мы считаем, что мир живет ради наших экономических, политических, научных и иных достижений, а в действительности мир живет ради тех праведников, которые вместили в свои сердца Воскресшего Христа, Сильного и Могущественного Бога, Который их сделал сильными и могущественными. Такие люди жертвенно любят весь мир, они молятся за нас, и ради них Господь посылает нам, недостойным, Свои милости и щедроты.

Сегодня мы смиренно благодарим нашего Святого Творца и Создателя за то, что слово о Христе Распятом и Воскресшем достигло и до нашей земли. Это спасительное благовестие принес на нашу землю святой апостол Андрей Первозванный. Святой апостол Андрей научил нас веровать в Воскресшего Христа, Сына Божия, Спасителя мира, научил нас жить по святым Божественным заветам и такой жизнью свидетельствовать о своей любви к Богу, Который «так возлюбил мир, что отдал Сына Своего Единородного, дабы всякий верующий в Него не погиб, но имел жизнь вечную» (Ин. 3, 16).

Пусть каждый из нас, дорогие братья и сестры, разумно заставляет себя выстраивать свою жизнь на священных заветах Воскресшего Христа, нашего Спасителя и Бога. Кто живет по заветам Бога, тот охраняет от погибели не только себя, но и мир, который окружает его. Поэтому постараемся жить так, чтобы мы были хранителями мира, а не разрушителями его.

Еще раз поздравляю всех Вас, дорогие братья и сестры, с Праздником Преславного Христова Воскресения, с великим триумфом победы жизни над смертью. Желаю всем здоровья, мира, счастья и спасения. Пусть свет жизни, просиявший от Живоносного Гроба, освещает наш разум и дает нам силу любить Бога и любить друг друга, чтобы мы сегодня, Воскресение Христово празднуя, поклонились смиренно святому Господу Иисусу и вместе з апели победную песнь Святой Пасхи: «Христос воскресе изъ мeртвыхъ, смeртію смeрть попрaвъ, и сyщымъ во гробехъ животъ даровaвъ» (Тропарь Пасхи). Аминь.

Aux archipasteurs, pasteurs, moines et tous les enfants fidèles de l’Église orthodoxe ukrainienne :

Le Christ est ressuscité !

Avec ces paroles éternellement vivantes, je vous salue tous de tout cœur, archipasteurs et pasteurs épris de Dieu, moines et moniales pieux, chers frères et sœurs, avec notre plus grande fête chrétienne de la Résurrection de notre Seigneur, Dieu et Sauveur Jésus-Christ.

Le Seigneur nous a rendu visite cette année avec une épreuve et une douleur particulière. Les forces du mal se sont rassemblées sur nous. Mais nous ne murmurons ni ne désespérons, car le Christ Sauveur a vaincu le mal par sa résurrection.

La résurrection glorieuse du Christ est une célébration du triomphe du bien sur le mal, de la vérité sur le mensonge, de la lumière sur les ténèbres. La résurrection du Christ est la Pâque éternelle, dans laquelle le Christ notre Sauveur et Seigneur nous a fait passer de la mort à la vie, de l’enfer au paradis.

Dieu, notre Créateur tout-puissant, a créé l’homme à partir de la terre, a insufflé un souffle de vie sur son visage et l’a orné de son image divine. Malheureusement, l’homme s’est privé de ce grand honneur en se détournant de l’Amour divin. L’homme est volontairement devenu victime de la mort. La mort que le Seigneur a autorisée pour l’homme déchu n’était pas la vengeance de Dieu, mais une manifestation d’un nouvel amour divin pour l’homme déchu : par la mort, le Seigneur a retranché le péché humain, ne permettant pas au mal de devenir immortel. Mais quand le Seigneur a détruit le péché humain sur la Croix, Il a également enlevé le pouvoir de la mort. Après la résurrection du Christ, la mort, qui régnait toujours, est devenue un sommeil temporaire, dont la qualité dépend de la qualité morale de notre vie terrestre.

Par son incarnation, sa souffrance volontaire et sa mort sur la Croix, le Fils de Dieu, notre Sauveur, nous a rendu le paradis perdu, et par sa très glorieuse Résurrection, le Sauveur a rendu le paradis accessible à tous. Les portes du Paradis ne s’ouvrent plus de l’intérieur, mais de l’extérieur, et chaque homme a reçu une clé qu’il peut et doit utiliser pour ouvrir le Paradis. La clé qui ouvre les portes du saint paradis est la repentance. Par la repentance, le voleur sage s’est ouvert les portes du paradis et a entendu les paroles joyeuses du Christ Sauveur : Aujourd’hui tu seras avec moi dans le paradis (Luc 23.43).

Combien ont été bénis ceux qui ont reçu le grand honneur de voir le Dieu incarné, d’entendre ses saintes paroles et de voir ses merveilleux miracles. Encore plus bénies furent les saintes femmes myrrophores lorsqu’elles virent l’ange assis sur la pierre près du tombeau vide du Sauveur, qui leur dit : Ne craignez pas, car je sais que vous cherchez Jésus, qui a été crucifié. Il n’est pas ici : car il est ressuscité (Matthieu 28, 5-6). Pourtant, encore plus bénis sont ceux qui n’ont pas vu le Sauveur avec des yeux corporels, mais qui croient en lui en tant que Fils de Dieu, en tant que Sauveur du monde.

La nouvelle de la résurrection du Christ a réconforté non seulement les saintes femmes myrrophores et les apôtres, mais elle est devenue la joie du monde entier. Les cœurs humains, qui ont reçu la vérité de la résurrection du Christ par la foi, ont été remplis d’une nouvelle puissance remplie de grâce, qui a insufflé aux gens un brillant espoir de retourner au paradis et a renforcé les gens dans la lutte contre le mal qui existait dans le monde.

Beaucoup de gens ont si sincèrement cru au Christ ressuscité qu’ils se sont complètement donnés au service de Dieu. Ils se sont purifiés du péché par la repentance et unis à leur Créateur, ils se sont humiliés sous la volonté du Dieu puissant et sont devenus eux-mêmes forts, devenant des héros spirituels. La sainte Église appelle ces personnes des « anges terrestres ».

Et il y a des anges terrestres dans le monde aujourd’hui, de puissants guerriers spirituels qui, par la foi au Christ ressuscité, surmontent le mal, et pour l’amour desquels le Seigneur a pitié de nous tous, pécheurs. De tels ascètes saints sont souvent autour de nous, mais nous ne nous intéressons pas à eux parce que nous ne les voyons pas. Nous croyons que le monde vit pour le bien de nos réalisations économiques, politiques, scientifiques et autres, mais en réalité, le monde vit pour le bien de ces justes qui ont fait de la place pour le Christ ressuscité dans leur cœur — le Fort et le Puissant. Dieu qui les a rendus forts et puissants. De telles personnes aiment le monde entier de manière sacrificielle, elles prient pour nous et pour elles, le Seigneur nous envoie, les indignes, sa miséricorde et sa générosité.

Aujourd’hui, nous remercions humblement notre saint Créateur que la parole du Christ crucifié et ressuscité soit parvenue sur notre terre. Cet Evangile salvateur a été apporté dans notre pays par le saint Apôtre André le premier-appelé. Le saint Apôtre André nous a appris à croire au Christ ressuscité, le Fils de Dieu, le Sauveur du monde ; il nous a appris à vivre selon les saintes alliances divines et par une telle vie à témoigner de notre amour pour Dieu, qui a tant aimé le monde, qu’il a donné son Fils unique, afin que quiconque croit en lui ne périsse pas, mais qu’il ait la vie éternelle (Jean 3, 16).

Que chacun de nous, chers frères et sœurs, s’efforce raisonnablement de bâtir sa vie sur les alliances sacrées du Christ ressuscité, notre Dieu et Sauveur. Quiconque vit selon les préceptes de Dieu se protège non seulement de la destruction, mais aussi du monde qui l’entoure. Par conséquent, essayons de vivre de manière à être les gardiens du monde et non ses destructeurs.

Encore une fois, je vous félicite tous, chers frères et sœurs, à l’occasion de la fête de la glorieuse Résurrection du Christ, avec le grand triomphe de la victoire de la vie sur la mort. Je souhaite à tous santé, paix, bonheur et salut. Que la Lumière de la Vie, qui a brillé du tombeau porteur de vie, illumine nos esprits et nous donne le pouvoir d’aimer Dieu et les uns les autres, afin qu’aujourd’hui, célébrant la Résurrection du Christ, nous puissions humblement adorer le saint Seigneur Jésus, et, avec les anges chantent le chant victorieux de la Sainte Pâque : « Le Christ est ressuscité des morts, foulant aux pieds la mort par la mort et donnant la vie à ceux qui sont dans les tombeaux » (Tropaire de Pâques). Amen.

En vérité, le Christ est ressuscité !
