28 APRIL / 11 MAY 2025: On the third Sunday after Pascha, the Sunday of the Paralytic, the Divine Liturgy in the London Cathedral of the Nativity of the Mother of God and the Holy Royal Martyrs was concelebrated the the First Hierarch and the members of the Holy Synod of Bishops of the ROCOR, who thereby concluded the regular Paschal session of the Synod. Presiding over the Liturgy was the First Hierarch, His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas of Eastern America and New York, in concelebration with His Eminence Metropolitan Mark of Berlin and Germany, His Eminence Archbishop Gabriel of Montreal and Canada, His Grace Bishop Irenei of London and Western Europe, His Grace Bishop Theodosy of Seattle, and His Grace Bishop Job of Stuttgart.
A special joy for the synodal Hierarchs was the concelebration at the Liturgy of His Eminence Silouan, Metropolitan of the British Isles and Ireland for the Antiochian Orthodox Church, together with the Priest Dmitry Ismagilov and Deacon George Moldoveanu of the Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese.
The assembly of ROCOR clergymen co-serving the Hierarchs included Archpriest Michael Crowley (of the St Xenia Parish in Methuen, Massachusetts), Archpriest Gregory Joyce (Dean of the Mid-America Diocese), Archpriest Serafim Gan (of St Serafim Parish in Sea-cliff, New York, and Secretary to the First Hierarch), Archpriest Vitaly Serapinas (of the London Cathedral), Archpriest Emilian Pocinok (of the Geneva Cathedral), Archpriest Paul Elliott (Diocesan Chancellor), Archpriest Yaroslav Hudymenko and Hieromonk Theodore (of the London Cathedral); with Protodeacon Evgeny Kallauer (of the St Serafim Parish in Sea-cliff, New York), Archdeacon Dometian (of the Geneva Cathedral), Deacon Andrei Borisas, Deacon Sergei Baranov and Deacon Pavel Lisitsin (all three of the London Cathedral).
The Liturgy was preceded by the solemn greeting of the wonderworking Kursk-root icon of the Mother of God, Protectress and Guide of the Orthodox Diaspora, which remained enshrined in the Cathedral throughout the service. Following the greeting of the First Hierarch, the faithful Reader of the London Cathedral, Valery Beroskin, was ordained Subdeacon by the hand of Metropolitan Nicholas, whereafter the full ensemble of Hierarchs assembled in the centre of the temple for the beginning of the Liturgy.
Throughout, the service was beautifully sung by the Bishop’s Choir of the Cathedral, with the Liturgy unfolding in Church Slavonic, English and, thanks to the prayerful presence of Metropolitan Silouan, Arabic. At the conclusion of the service, the First Hierarch delivered a spiritual word on the Gospel account of the paralytic man, exhorting the faithful to recognise that we are all, at times, in need of help and care — and to be ready to receive this from our brethren, and even directly from our merciful God Himself. The Protodeacon then intoned ‘Many Years!’ for the Holy Synod and all the assembled Hierarchy, upon which Vladyka Nicholas greeted his fellow Bishops and the great assembly of clergy and faithful. His Grace Bishop Irenei of London and Western Europe thanked the First Hierarch and Synod members for the blessing of their presence in London, and especially for the opportunity to labour and pray together in the presence of the Kursk-root icon.
Following the Divine Services, a festal luncheon was held in the Cathedral Hall, which spilled over into tables outdoors, taking advantage of beautiful springtime weather. A small poetic and musical performance was given by some of the youngest children of the Parish, and all the guests expressed their gratitude for the extraordinary hospitality shown by the Cathedral Sisterhood of St Xenia, not only on the day but throughout the week of the Synod’s presence in the capital.
On Sunday evening, the Hierarchs visited an icon exhibition in central London, and spent a final evening together over supper, before preparing to depart on Monday morning to return to their home dioceses.
28 АПРЕЛЯ / 11 МАЯ 2025 г.: В третье Воскресенье по Пасхе, в день памяти расслабленного, в кафедральном соборе Рождества Пресвятой Богородицы и святых Царственных мучеников в Лондоне была совершена Божественная литургия, которую возглавил Первоиерарх Русской Зарубежной Церкви, Высокопреосвященнейший митрополит Восточно-Американский и Нью-Йоркский Николай в сослужении членов Святейшего Архиерейского Синода. Этим архиереи завершили регулярное Пасхальное заседание Синода в столице Великобритании. С Первоиерархом сослужили митрополит Берлинский и Германский Марк, архиепископ Монреальский и Канадский Гавриил, епископ Лондонский и Западно-Европейский Ириней, епископ Сиэтльский Феодосий и епископ Штутгартский Иов.
Особую радость архипастырям Зарубежной Церкви принесло сослужение с Высокопреосвященнейшим Силуаном, митрополитом Британских островов и Ирландии Антиохийской Православной Церкви, а также с клириками Антиохийской архиепископии — иереем Димитрием Исмагиловым и диаконом Георгием Молдовеану.
Среди сослужащих клириков РПЦЗ были: протоиерей Михаил Кроули (приход св. Ксении в Метуэн, США), протоиерей Григорий Джойс (благочинный Средне-Американской епархии), протоиерей Серафим Ган (приход преп. Серафима в Си-Клиффе, США, и секретарь Первоиерарха), протоиерей Виталий Серапинас (Лондонский кафедральный собор), протоиерей Эмилиан Починок (Женевский кафедральный собор), протоиерей Павел Эллиот (канцлер епархии), протоиерей Ярослав Гудыменко и иеромонах Феодор (Лондонский собор), а также протодиакон Евгений Каллауэр (приход преп. Серафима в Си-Клиффе), архидиакон Дометиан (Женевский собор), диакон Андрей Борисас, диакон Сергий Баранов и диакон Павел Лисицын (Лондонский собор).
Перед началом Литургии была совершена торжественная встреча чудотворной Курской-Коренной иконы Божией Матери — Покровительницы и Наставницы Православного рассеяния, пребывавшей в соборе на протяжении всего богослужения. После встречи Первоиерарха чтец Лондонского собора Валерий Бероскин был рукоположен митрополитом Николаем во иподиакона. Затем архиереи сосредоточились в центре храма для начала Божественной литургии.
Богослужение сопровождалось прекрасным пением Архиерейского хора собора. Литургия совершалась на церковнославянском, английском и, благодаря присутствию митрополита Силуана, арабском языках.
По окончании Литургии Первоиерарх обратился к верующим с проповедью на евангельское чтение о расслабленном, призвав всех осознавать собственную немощь и с доверием принимать помощь от ближних и от Самого Милосердного Бога. Протодиакон провозгласил многолетие Архиерейскому Синоду и всем сослужащим иерархам, потом митрополит Николай поздравил собратьев по архиерейскому служению и многочисленных клириков и мирян. Владыка Ириней выразил благодарность Первоиерарху и членам Синода за благословение и радость совместной молитвы и труда в присутствии иконы Божией Матери.
После богослужения в приходском зале состоялся праздничный обед, продолжившийся за столами под открытым небом, в радости прекрасной весенней погоды. Дети прихода исполнили небольшую поэтическую и музыкальную программу. Все присутствующие выразили благодарность сестричеству святой Ксении за проявленное радушие на протяжении всей седмицы пребывания Синода в Лондоне.
Вечером в воскресенье архиереи посетили выставку икон в центре Лондона и провели последний вечер совместно за трапезой, готовясь к отъезду в свои епархии в понедельник утром.
28 AVRIL / 11 MAI 2025 : Le troisième dimanche après Pâques, le dimanche du Paralytique, la Divine Liturgie au cathédrale de la Nativité de la Mère de Dieu et des saints Martyrs Impériaux à Londres a été concélébrée par le Premier hiérarque et les membres du Saint-Synode des évêques de l’Église russe hors-frontières, concluant ainsi la session pascale ordinaire du Synode. La Liturgie était présidée par le Premier hiérarque, Son Éminence le métropolite Nicolas d’Amérique orientale et de New York, en concélébration avec Son Éminence le métropolite Marc de Berlin et d’Allemagne, Son Éminence l’archevêque Gabriel de Montréal et du Canada, Son Excellence l’évêque Irénée de Londres et d’Europe occidentale, Son Excellence l’évêque Théodose de Seattle et Son Excellence l’évêque Job de Stuttgart.
Une joie particulière pour les hiérarques synodaux fut la concélébration à la Liturgie de Son Éminence Silouane, métropolite des Îles Britanniques et d’Irlande pour l’Église orthodoxe d’Antioche, accompagné du prêtre Dimitri Ismagilov et du diacre Georges Moldoveanu de l’archidiocèse orthodoxe antiochien.
Le clergé de l’Église hors-frontières concélébrant aux côtés des hiérarques comprenait l’archiprêtre Michel Crowley (de la paroisse sainte Xénia à Methuen, Massachusetts), l’archiprêtre Grégoire Joyce (doyen du diocèse d’Amérique médiane), l’archiprêtre Séraphim Gan (de la paroisse saint Séraphim à Sea Cliff, New York, et secrétaire du premier hiérarque), l’archiprêtre Vitaly Serapinas (du cathédrale de Londres), l’archiprêtre Emilian Pocinok (du cathédrale de Genève), l’archiprêtre Paul Elliott (chancelier diocésain), l’archiprêtre Jaroslav Houdymenko et l’hiéromoine Théodore (du cathédrale de Londres), avec le protodiacre Eugène Kallauer (de la paroisse saint Séraphim à Sea Cliff, New York), l’archidiacre Dométien (du cathédrale de Genève), le diacre André Borisas, le diacre Serge Baranov et le diacre Paul Lisitsine (tous trois du cathédrale de Londres).
La Liturgie fut précédée de l’accueil solennel de l’icône miraculeuse de la Mère de Dieu de Koursk, Protectrice et Guide de la Diaspora orthodoxe, qui resta exposée dans le cathédrale pendant tout l’office. Après la salutation du Premier hiérarque, le lecteur fidèle du cathédrale de Londres, Valéry Beroskin, fut ordonné sous-diacre par la main du métropolite Nicolas, après quoi l’ensemble des hiérarques se rassembla au centre du temple pour le début de la Liturgie.
L’office fut magnifiquement chanté par le chœur épiscopal du cathédrale, la Liturgie étant célébrée en slavon, en anglais, et — grâce à la prière du métropolite Silouane — en arabe. À la fin de l’office, le Premier hiérarque prononça une homélie spirituelle sur le récit évangélique de l’homme paralysé, exhortant les fidèles à reconnaître que nous avons tous, à certains moments, besoin d’aide et de soins — et à être prêts à les recevoir de nos frères, ou directement de notre Dieu miséricordieux. Le protodiacre entonna alors « Многая лета » pour le Saint-Synode et tous les membres de l’assemblée hiérarchique, après quoi Vladyka Nicolas salua ses confrères évêques et la grande assemblée du clergé et des fidèles. Monseigneur Irénée, évêque de Londres et d’Europe occidentale, remercia le premier hiérarque et les membres du Synode pour la bénédiction de leur présence à Londres, et tout particulièrement pour l’opportunité de prier et d’œuvrer ensemble en présence de l’icône de Koursk.
Après les offices divins, un déjeuner festif fut offert dans la salle paroissiale, qui s’étendit jusqu’aux tables en extérieur, profitant du beau temps printanier. Un petit spectacle poétique et musical fut donné par les plus jeunes enfants de la paroisse, et tous les invités exprimèrent leur gratitude pour l’extraordinaire hospitalité manifestée par la fraternité féminine sainte Xénia du cathédrale, non seulement en ce jour, mais durant toute la semaine de présence du Synode dans la capitale.
Le dimanche soir, les hiérarques visitèrent une exposition d’icônes dans le centre de Londres et partagèrent un dernier repas fraternel avant de se préparer à repartir, le lundi matin, vers leurs diocèses respectifs.
