14 / 27 СЕНТЯБРЯ 2024 г.: В эти святые дни торжественно отмечается праздник Всеобщего Воздвижения Животворящего Креста Господня, которое является престольным праздником женевского кафедрального собора.
Богослужения праздника возглавил Правящей архиерей Преосвященный епископ Лондонский и Западно-Европейский Ириней, вместе с епископом Александром, который присоединился к Владыке Иринею по случаю праздника. Архиереям сослужили старший клирик епархии протоиерей Павел Цветков, протоиерей Эмилиан Починок, архидиакон Домитиан (Редко) и диакон Антоний Баррос, и несколько клириков епархии из близлежащих приходов — иерей Георгий Машталер, иерей Владимир Свистун и иерей Авив Салиу-Диалло, и также близкий друг прихода, протоиерей Михаил Гундяев, настоятель Патриаршего прихода в Женеве, и протоиерей Антоний Баргараки из Украинской Православной Церкви.
По завершении Великого славословия на Всенощном Бдении владыка Ириней совершил чин Воздвижения Креста — особую службу к празднику, совершаемую архиереем в значимых соборах и монастырях. Честный Крест Господень, торжественно пронесенный в центр храма и украшенный прекрасными цветами, пять раз медленно опускался на землю, а затем высоко поднимался архиереем над головами всех под стократное пение хора: «Господи помилуй» на каждом из пяти воздвижений. На протяжении всего чина священники возливали на распятие розовую воду, символизирующий Жизнь, исходящую от Креста Христова, — и эта вода падала на цветы, которые затем раздавались верующим.
Этот уникальный чин, совершенный в память о Воздвижении Честного Креста после его открытия императрицей Еленой в IV веке, занимает особое место в сердцах женевских верующих, и в сердцах верующих всего региона, поскольку собор, посвященный этому празднику, то это одно из немногих мест, где обычно проводится полное чинопоследование Воздвижения.
По окончании Божественной Литургии Владыка Ириней обратился к духовенству и пастве с проповедью о значении Креста, вдохновленной памятными словами архиепископа Павла Сиднейского и Австралийского, который возглавлял ту епархию РПЦЗ в конце двадцатого века. Обращаясь к словам покойного архиерея, епископ Ириней призвал верующих Женевы: «Когда нас посещают скорби, им следует радоваться и благодарить Бога. Первые христиане, когда их не посещали скорби, плакали и горько воздыхали говоря: “Господи, чем я согрешил перед Тобою, что Ты забыл и оставил меня?” Ибо каждый из них чувствовал, что в страданиях посещает нас Господь. И как мы далеко отошли от этого первохристианского представления! Ибо когда нас скорбь посетит, мы восклицаем: “За что, Господи?” И вот мы, дорогие братья и сестры, когда будет нас посещать скорбь, будем радоваться и веселиться, видя в том особое знамение благоволения к нам нашего Спасителя и Господа. Конечно, для языческого мира как в те времена, так и теперь крест Христов есть юродство, безумие, а для нас спасающая Божия сила и Божия премудрость.»
По окончании богослужения состоялась концерт детского хора и банкет, и епископ Ириней оставался в течение всего дня, встретившись с клириками и верующими.

14 / 27 SEPTEMBRE 2024 : La fête de l’Exaltation universelle de la Croix, fête de l’autel de la cathédrale à Genève, a été solennellement célébrée par Son Excellence l’évêque Irénée de Londres et d’Europe occidentale.
Les services divins de la fête ont été célébrés par l’évêque dirigeant, avec l’évêque Alexandre, qui a rejoint Vladyka Irénée à l’occasion de la fête. Les évêques etaient co-servi par le clergé de la cathédrale : l’archiprêtre Pavel Tzvetkoff, l’archiprêtre Emilien Pocinoc, l’archidiacre Dometien (Redko) et le diacre Antoine Barros ; et plusieurs membres du clergé diocésain des paroisses voisines — le prêtre Georges Machtalère, le prêtre Vladimir Svystun et le prêtre Aviv Saliou-Diallo, ainsi qu’un ami proche de la paroisse, l’archiprêtre Michel Gundyaev, recteur de la paroisse patriarcale à Genève, et l’archiprêtre Antoine Bargaraki de l’Église orthodoxe ukrainienne.
À la fin de la Grande Doxologie des Vigiles, Mgr Irénée a accompli le Rite de l’Élévation de la Croix — un service spécial pour la Fête, servi uniquement par un évêque dans les grandes cathédrales ou dans les grands monastères. La précieuse Croix du Christ, ayant été solennellement portée au centre de l’église et ornée de belles fleurs, fut, cinq fois, lentement descendue sur terre puis élevée au-dessus des têtes de tous par le Hiérarque, pendant que le chœur chantait «Seigneur, aie pitié» 100 fois pour chacune des cinq élévations. Partout, de l’eau de rose était versée par les prêtres sur la croix entre les mains de l’évêque, symbolisant la vie qui découle de la croix du Sauveur — et cette eau tombait sur des fleurs qui étaient ensuite distribuées aux fidèles.
Ce rite unique, réalisé en mémoire de l’élévation de la précieuse Croix lors de sa découverte par l’Impératrice Sainte-Hélène au IVe siècle, occupe une place particulière dans le cœur des fidèles de Genève et de toute la région, car, la Cathédrale étant dédiée à cette Fête, c’est l’un des rares endroits où se déroule régulièrement le rite complet de l’Élévation.
À la fin de la Divine Liturgie, Vladyka Irénée a adressé une homélie au clergé et aux fidèles sur le message de la Croix, s’inspirant des paroles mémorables prononcées lors de la fête de l’archevêque Paul de Sydney et d’Australie, qui avait dirigé le diocèse de l’Église orthodoxe russe hors frontières en Australie à la fin du vingtième siècle. Faisant écho aux paroles du regretté hiérarque, l’évêque Irénée a exhorté les fidèles de Genève en ces termes : « Le message de la Croix est le suivant … lorsque les épreuves nous visitent, nous devons nous réjouir et remercier Dieu. Les premiers chrétiens, lorsqu’ils n’étaient pas éprouvés par la souffrance, pleuraient et s’écriaient : “Seigneur, quel péché ai-je commis devant Toi pour que Tu m’aies oublié et abandonné ?” Car chacun d’eux sentait que c’était précisément dans la souffrance que le Seigneur les visitait. Comme nous nous sommes éloignés de cette compréhension primitive du christianisme ! Car c’est justement quand les épreuves nous atteignent que nous nous exclamons : “Pourquoi, Seigneur ?” Mais, chers frères et sœurs, lorsque la souffrance nous visite, joignons-nous à nos ancêtres dans la foi et réjouissons-nous, voyant en cela un signe particulier de la faveur de notre Sauveur et Seigneur. En effet, pour le monde païen, tant à cette époque qu’aujourd’hui, la Croix du Christ est une folie, une absurdité, mais pour nous, elle est la puissance salvatrice et la sagesse de Dieu ! »
Un concert du chœur d’enfants et un banquet a ensuite suivi, et Mgr Irénée est resté toute la journée avec Mgr Alexendre, à rencontrer le clergé et les fidèles.

14 / 27 SEPTEMBER 2024: The Feast of the Universal Exaltation of the Cross of Christ, the Altar Feast of the Geneva Cathedral, was solemnly celebrated by His Grace Bishop Irenei of London and Western Europe.
The Divine Services were headed by the Ruling Bishop, together with Bishop Alexander, who joined Vladyka Irenei on the occasion of the Feast. The Hierarchs were co-served by the Cathedral’s clergy: senior cleric of the Diocese, Archpriest Pavel Tzvetkoff, Archpriest Emilien Pocinoc, Archdeacon Dometien (Redko) and Deacon Antoine Barros; and several diocesan clergy from nearby parishes — Priest George Machtalère, Priest Vladimir Svystun and Priest Aviv Saliou-Diallo, together with a close friend of the parish, Archpriest Michael Gundyaev, rector of the Patriarchal parish in Geneva, and Archpriest Antony Bargaraki from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
At the conclusion of the Great Doxology of the Vigil, Bishop Irenei performed the Rite of the Elevation of the Cross — a special service for the Feast, served only in major cathedrals or in large monasteries, by a Bishop. The precious Cross of Christ, having been solemnly borne into the centre of the temple and adorned with beautiful flowers, was, five times, slowly lowered to the earth and then raised high above the heads of all by the Hierarch, as the choir sang ‘Lord, have mercy’ 100 times for each for the five elevations. Throughout, rose-water was poured by the Priests upon the Cross in the Bishop’s hands, symbolising the life that flows from the Cross of the Saviour — and this water fell upon flowers that were later distributed to the faithful.
This unique rite, done in memorial of the lifting up of the Precious Cross upon its discovery by the Empress St Helena in the fourth century, holds a special place in the hearts of the Geneva faithful, and the faithful of the whole region, since, the Cathedral being dedicated to this Feast, it is one of the few places where the full rite of Elevation is routinely performed.
At the end of the Divine Liturgy, Vladyka Irenei greeted the clergy and faithful with a homily on the the message of the Cross, drawing inspiration from the memorable words on the feast of Archbishop Pavel of Sydney and Australia, who had ruled the ROCOR Diocese there in the late twentieth century. Harking to the late Hierarch’s words, Bishop Irenei exhorted the faithful of Geneva: ‘The message of the Cross is this … when sorrows visit us, we should rejoice and thank God. The early Christians, when they were not visited by sorrows, would weep and cry out, “Lord, what sin have I committed before Thee that Thou hast forgotten and abandoned me?” For each of them felt that it was precisely in suffering that the Lord visited them. How far we have come from this early Christian understanding! For it is when sorrows do visit us, that we exclaim, “Why, Lord?” But, dear brothers and sisters, when sorrow visits us, let us join our forebears and rejoice and be glad, seeing in this a special sign of the favour of our Saviour and Lord. Indeed, to the pagan world, both in those times and now, the Cross of Christ is foolishness, madness, but for us it is the saving power and wisdom of God!’
A concert by the children’s choir and a banquet followed the feast, and Bishop Irenei remained throughout the day, meeting with clergy and faithful.
