Last Thursday evening the Youth Group held an iconography workshop with an experienced iconographer from the parish.
First we watched a short video demonstrating the different stages of icon ‘writing’, specifically the process of using different layers and the meaning behind certain colours.
We were then able to play around with applying real silver to clay - with a method commonly used by iconographers - and mixing different colours.
Throughout we had the opportunity to ask any questions we had, from which we learned a lot about certain techniques and practices in iconography.
One big takeaway from this event was the realisation of the work that goes behind icon ‘writing’, and that this is truly a spiritual undertaking.
