15 / 28 OCTOBER 2023: On the eve of the 21st Sunday after Pentecost, the Very Reverend Archpriest Paul Elliott, Diocesan Chancellor, visited the mission parish of St Patrick in Clifden, Ireland, accompanied by Matushka Elizabeth. There, with the blessing of His Grace Bishop Irenei of London and Western Europe, he performed the rite of the installation of a consecrated Antimins in a newly-constructed temple.

The new church has been constructed on the grounds of the home of the Reverend Priest Robert Williams and his wife, Matushka Anastasia, to be the home of the liturgical life of the new parish. The special rite for the installation of an Antimins by a senior Archpriest of the Diocese — which is simultaneously the rite of the official blessing for perpetual services to begin in a new temple — was undertaken with solemnity and joy. Reporting on the service, Archpriest Paul noted, ‘The service opened with the blessing of the waters. New vessels, the Gospel Book and all the items for the Altar were first of all blessed. Then the Holy Table was washed with hot water and dried before being blessed and vested. The lamps on the holy table were lit for the first time and all the recently-blessed items put in their places. Once the Altar was all ready, the Antimins was solemnly processed on a discos and placed into the unfolded iliton on the Holy Table. There followed a solemn prayer on bended knee to welcome the Antimins into the Altar.’

The evening Divine Services were served late that evening once all had been prepared and made ready. After Vespers the newly painted icons were fixed to the iconastasis.

On Sunday morning over 20 people gathered for the first Divine Liturgy celebrated in St Patrick’s, concelebrated by Archpriest Paul and Priest Robert. Writes Fr Paul: ‘Faithful had come from far and near to be present at this historic event.’ The choir, led by Matushka Anastasia Williams, Nathaniel and Genevieve, sang beautifully, while children of the Priest’s family, Thomas, Finnian and Ephraim, served in the Altar.

At the conclusion of the Liturgy, Fr Paul preached a homily about St Longinus, whose feast was kept on the day, and presented a gift of an icon of the saint to Fr Robert and Matushka Anastasia. He then conveyed the greetings and love of Bishop Irenei to the family and faithful gathered in his newest parish, and the iconostasis was blessed by Fr Robert.

The whole weekend was characterised by the warm hospitality of the Williams family, who welcomed many guests. After a long lunch, some of the family and faithful walked up to mountain site known as ‘St Patrick’s bed’ saying prayers at the top of the mountain to beseech the blessing of the saint upon the newly founded parish.

Новый храм построен на территории дома священника Роберта Уильямса и его жены матушки Анастасии, и станет местом богослужебной жизни нового прихода. Особый чин положения Антиминса старшим протоиереем епархии, являющийся одновременно чином официального благословения на начало вечных служб в новом храме, был совершен торжественно и радостно. Отчитываясь о богослужении, протоиерей Павел отметил: «Служба открылась освящением воды. Прежде всего были освящены новые сосуды, Евангелие и все предметы для Алтаря. Затем Престол промыли горячей водой и осушили перед освящением и облачением. Впервые зажгли лампады на Престоле и расставили по местам все недавно освященные предметы. Когда Престол был готов, Антиминс торжественно положили на дискосе и поместили в развернутый илитон на Престоле. Последовала торжественная коленопреклоненная молитва о приветствии антиминс в алтар».

Вечернее богослужение было совершено поздно вечером, когда все уже было приготовлено. После вечерни к иконостасу были прикреплены вновь написанные иконы.

В воскресенье утром более 20 человек собрались на первую Божественную литургию, совершенную в храме Святого Патрика, которую сослужили протоиерей Павел и иерей Роберт. Отец Павел пишет: «Верные приехали издалека, чтобы присутствовать на этом историческом событии». Прекрасно пел хор под руководством матушки Анастасии Уильямс, Нафанаила и Женевьевы, а в алтаре служили дети семьи священника: Фома, Финниан и Ефрем.

По окончании Литургии отец Павел произнес проповедь о преподобном Лонгине, праздник которого отмечался в этот день, и преподнес икону святителя в дар отцу Роберту и матушке Анастасии. Затем он передал приветствие и любовь епископа Иринея семье и верующим, а отец Роберт благословил иконостас.

Все выходные отличались теплым гостеприимством семьи Уильямс, принявшей множество гостей. После обеда некоторые члены семьи и верующие поднялись в горе на место, известное как «Ложе Святого Патрика», и вознесли молитвы на вершине горы, чтобы испросить у святого благословения на недавно основанный приход.
