4 / 17 OCTOBER 2021: Following the Divine Liturgy on the 17th Sunday after Pentecost, the annual Parish Assembly of the Diocesan Cathedral of the Nativity of the Mother of God and the Holy Royal Martyrs was held in London.
The meeting, which took place on the 45th anniversary of the repose of Archbishop Nikodim of Richmond and Great Britain, former ruling hierarch of what is today the British Isles region of the Diocese and who was prayerfully remembered during the Divine Liturgy, marked the return to the normal convening of these annual meetings, following the impossibility of doing so in 2020 due to pandemic restrictions then in place.
The Assembly was chaired by His Grace Bishop Irenei of London and Western Europe, Rector of the Cathedral, who began the meeting with prayer and a reading of the Holy Scriptures, after which he gave a report on the life of the parish over the past two years — marked out, in terms of external circumstances, by the Covid-19 pandemic, but in spiritual terms by a remarkable thriving of the community in a time of external trials. Vladyka Irenei thanked the clergy, councillors, starosta, sisterhood and many others who assisted in the great labours involved in ensuring the Cathedral remained open and active throughout the pandemic; and His Grace noted that not only has the Cathedral parish endured the pandemic period, but in fact grown substantially. The number of faithful has dramatically increased over the past 24 months, requiring an increase in the number of weekly Divine Services; and this has been conjoined to many other developments in the parish life: more baptisms, families, children, etc. Reports were given by the clergy and parish officers, covering such aspects as the development of the Cathedral’s mixed choir and foundation of a children’s choir; the expansion of the Youth Group and its activities; the development of new catechetical programmes; the expansion of the Sisterhood; parish and diocesan pilgrimages, and several other topics.
The Cathedral Treasurer and Auditors presented the full accounts for 2019 and 2020, noting, with gratitude to all the parishioners, that the period of pandemic has been responded to by the faithful with generosity and giving that has improved the Cathedral’s financial situation in such challenging times.
In the course of the Assembly, elections were also held for the Parish Council and its various officers who will offer their time and energy in various roles of service over the coming year.

Генеральная ассамблея, состоявшаяся в 45-ю годовщину кончины архиепископа Ричмондского и Великобританского Никодима, бывшего правящего иерарха современной епархии на территории Британских островов, которого молитвенно помянули во время Божественной литургии, ознаменовала возвращение к нормальным созывам ежегодных собраний после недопустимости сделать это в 2020 году из-за действующих на тот момент карантинных ограничений.
Общеприходское собрание возглавил настоятель собора Преосвященный епископ Лондонский и Западно-Европейский Ириней, который начал заседание с молитвы и чтения Священного Писания, после чего он выступил с отчетом о приходской жизни на протяжении двух лет, отмеченных с точки зрения внешних обстоятельств пандемией Covid-19, но с духовной стороны – замечательным процветанием общины в период внешних испытаний. Владыка Ириней поблагодарил духовенство, помощников, старосту, сестричество и многих других, которые помогали в больших трудах, связанных с тем, чтобы Собор оставался открытым и действующим на протяжении всего времени пандемии; и Его Преосвященство отметил, что приход кафедрального собора не только пережил карантинный период, но и существенно расширился. За последние 24 месяца резко увеличилось количество верующих, что потребовало увеличения количества еженедельных богослужений; и это было связано со многими другими событиями в жизни прихода: большим количеством Крещений, приходящих семей, детей и подростков и т. д. Духовенство и приходские служители сделали доклады, охватывающие такие аспекты, как развитие смешанного соборного хора и создание детского; расширение молодежной группы и ее деятельности; разработка новых катехизических программ; развитие сестричества; приходские и епархиальные паломничества и ряд других моментов.
Казначей и аудиторы собора представили полную финансовую отчетность за 2019 и 2020 годы, выразив благодарность всем прихожанам, поскольку в период пандемии верующие отреагировали щедрыми пожертвования, что улучшило материальное положение собора в такие сложные времена.
Во время Ассамблеи также были проведены выборы различных должностных лиц и членов Приходского совета, которые в наступающем году посвятят свое время и энергию в различных местах церковного служения.
