16-19 DECEMBER 2023: With the blessing of Bishop Irenei of London and Western Europe, the Holy Trinity Parish of Bern in Switzerland made a pilgrimage to the relics of St Nicholas and other shrines of the land of Italy. A group of 43 pilgrims, led by the Reverend Priest Vladimir Svystun, landed in Rome on Saturday, 16th December, to begin their pilgrimage with a visit to sacred shrines in the 'Eternal City'.
The programme began with a visit to the St Peter's Basilica in the Vatican — the resting place of the Holy Apostle Peter (in which the precious relics of St Simon the Zealot, St Gregory the Theologian, St Gregory the Dialogist, St Leo the Great and others are also located). After moving to the Lateran Hill, the pilgrims made the traditional ascent, upon their knees, of the 'Holy Stairs' (the steps Christ ascended on His way to human judgement, which were transported to Rome by St Helena); and the day itself ended with a moleben before a portion of the Life-Giving Tree of the Holy Cross and other shrines associated with the Passion of Christ the Saviour.
Sunday 17th December began with prayer in the catacombs of St Kallistos, where the pilgrims came into contact with the living history of the ancient persecuted Church and numerous testimonies of her martyrs for the Faith. Many of these were laid to rest in such underground Christian necropolises, and the early celebrations of the sacred Eucharist were offered upon their precious relics. The ancient Christian inscriptions in these catacombs, including symbols and frescoes dating from the 3rd - 6th centuries, left no one indifferent. The group then visited the Aventine Hill, where a moleben was served before the relics of the Holy Martyr martyr Boniface and St Alexis the Man of God, as well as the ancient, wonderworking Edessa icon of the Mother of God.
Having left Rome on the third day of the pilgrimage, the group began its travels towards the south of the Apennine Peninsula. While in transit, in the vicinity of Pescara on the Adriatic coast, the pilgrims visited the ancient town of Ortona, where the relics of the Holy Apostle Thomas rest, having been brought to the city from the Greek island of Chios. A moleben was served in front of the Apostle's shrine and all were able to venerate his tomb, and to petition a strengthening in faith for themselves and their neighbours.
The culmination of the pilgrimage came upon the fourth day, when the group, early in the morning of 6th / 19th December — the feastday of St Nicholas of Myra in Lycia — reached the Basilica of San Nicola in Bari. There a conciliar Divine Liturgy was celebrated by a host of clergy who had arrived from all corners of the Orthodox world for the feast, led by Bishop Ambrose of Bogorodsk (Korsun Diocese). The Divine Service brought together several thousand believers, united in common prayer at the relics of St Nicholas on the day of his honourable memory, at which the whole Bernese pilgrimage group made their confession and received of the Holy Mysteries of Christ. In the afternoon, the pilgrims descended into the crypt of the church to venerate the precious relics of the Wonderworker of Myra, asking for his heavenly protection for themselves, the Bern Parish, and all their relatives and friends. Then a visit was made to the Patriarchal podvorye.
Inspired by God's abundant mercy and the grace received at the shrines in Italy, the pilgrims, thanking the Lord, left for their return to Switzerland late in the evening of 19th December.

16-19 ДЕКАБРЯ 2023 г.: По благословению епископа Лондонского и Западно-Европейского Иринея Свято-Троицкий приход Берна в Швейцарии 16-19 декабря 2023 года совершил паломничество к мощам святителя Николая и другим святыням земли Италийской. Группа, состоящая из 43 человек, во главе со священником Владимиром Свистуном в субботу 16 декабря приземлилась в Риме, чтобы начать свое паломничество с посещения святынь «Вечного города».
Программа началась визитом в собор св. ап. Петра в Ватикане – места упокоения ап. Петра (где находятся также мощи ап. Симона Зилота, свят. Григория Богослова и Григория Двоеслова, св. Льва Великого и др.). После переезда на Латеранский холм паломники совершили коленопреклонённый молитвенный подъем на Святую Лестницу в храме «Святая Святых», а сам день завершился молебном в базилике Санта-Кроче и поклонением Животворящему Древу Креста Господня и другим святыням, связанным с крестными Страданиями Христа Спасителя.
Воскресный день 17 декабря начался молитвой в катакомбах св. Каллиста, где пилигримы соприкоснулись с живой историей древней гонимой Церкви и многочисленными свидетельствами мучеников за веру, многие из которых нашли свой покой в подземных христианских некрополях, а на их мощах совершались первые Св. Евхаристии. Дренехристианские надписи, символы и фрески III-VI веков не оставили никого равнодушным. Затем группа посетила Авентинский холм, где был совершен молебен перед мощами св. мч. Вонифатия и св. Алексия Человека Божия, а также перед древней чудотворной Эдесской иконой Божией Матери.
Покинув Рим в третий день паломничества группа начала продвигаться в сторону юга Апеннинского полуострова. Находясь транзитом в окрестностях Пескары на Адриатическом побережье, паломники посетили древний городок Ортону, где с XIII века покоятся мощи св. апостола Фомы, привезенные в этот город из греческого острова Хиос. Перед святыней был отслужен молебен и каждый смог приклониться его гробнице, а также испросить укрепления в вере себе и своим ближним.
Кульминацией паломничества стал четвертый день, когда группа ранним утром 6/19 декабря достигла базилики Сан-Никола в Бари, где сонмом духовенства, прибывшим со всех уголков православного мира, во главе с епископом Богородским Амвросием (Корсунская епархия), была совершена соборная Божественная Литургия, которая собрала несколько тысяч верующих, объединившихся в общей молитве на мощах Святителя Николая в день его честной памяти. Вся группа приступила к Исповеди и принятию святых Христовых Тайн. В послеобеденное время с особыми переживаниями паломники спустились в крипту храма, чтобы приложиться к мощам Мирликийского Чудотворца, испрашивая его небесного покровительства для себя, бернского прихода, всех родных и близких. Затем был совершен визит в Патриаршее Подворье.
Окрыленные обильною Божьей Милостью и Благодатью, полученной у святынь Италии паломники, возблагодарив Господа, поздно вечером 19 декабря отбыли в Швейцарию.
