SUNDAY 19 AUGUST / 1 SEPTEMBER 2024: On the tenth Sunday after Pentecost, a joyous series of event took place in the Church of the Nativity of Christ and St Nicholas in Florence, Italy. The Hierarchical services of the weekend were served by the First Hierarch of the Church Abroad, His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas of Eastern America and New York, and the Ruling Bishop of the Diocese, His Grace Bishop Irenei of London and Western Europe. Joining them on Sunday morning was His Grace Bishop Job of Stuttgart, whom Bishop Irenei warmly invited to the parish. Co-serving the Hierarchs were the local clergy of the Florentine parish: Archpriest George Blatynski, Priest Oleg Turcan, and Deacon Rustik Prisacaru.
On Friday, Bishop Irenei warmly welcomed the First Hierarch back to the Florence community, where His Eminence had visited for the Clergy Convocation in 2023. The two Hierarchs were in turn welcomed by the local community, meeting with parishioners in the afternoon and spending the evening with the parish clergy, discussing its spiritual life and that of the Church more broadly. Discussions were also begun on plans for the First Hierarch’s first formal visit to the Diocese of Great Britain and Western Europe as a whole, towards which all the faithful and clergy look with great anticipation.
Prior to the All-Night Vigil on Saturday evening, Bishop Irenei invited the community to gather in remembrance of the ever-memorable First Hierarch of the Church Abroad, Metropolitan Laura’s, whose heavenly patron’s memory was kept on this day. The current First Hierarch, Metropolitan Nicholas, thus served a pannikhida for Metropolitan Laurus, and offered heartfelt words in his remembrance.
The Sunday Divine Liturgy, presided over by the Metropolitan, was celebrated in the beautiful lower church of the parish, dedicated to St Nicholas the Wonderworker, where the Divine Services are customarily held during the exceedingly hot summer months. With particular beauty the parish choir sang the Liturgy, served by three Hierarchs, at which many faithful came forward to receive the Divine Mysteries of Christ and receive a spiritual word from the First Hierarch.
On Sunday afternoon, two weddings were celebrated in the temple: that of Priest Oleg and Matushka Nona’s eldest son, Sergei, which the whole parish celebrated with great joy, as a beloved child of the community entered into a new richness of life with his bride. The second wedding, the same afternoon, was of two spiritual children of Metropolitan Nicholas with connections to the Church in Florence, for which occasion His Eminence had travelled to the city, in order to crown them in the temple so dear to them.
Throughout the coming week, Bishop Job will remain in Florence at the invitation of Bishop Irenei, in order to film a documentary about the history and life of the Florentine community, as part of a series of films about the legacy of the Church Abroad’s historic temples in the Western European and German dioceses.

ВОСКРЕСЕНЬЕ, 19 АВГУСТА / 1 СЕНТЯБРЯ 2024 г.: В 10-е Воскресенье по Пятидесятнице в храме Рождества Христова и святителя Николая во Флоренции, Италия, состоялся ряд радостных событий. Архиерейские богослужения в эти выходные возглавил Первоиерарх Русской Православной Церкви Заграницей, Его Высокопреосвященство Митрополит Восточно-Американский и Нью-Йоркский Николай, и Управляющий епархией Преосвященнейший епископ Лондонский и Западно-Европейский Ириней. К Иерархам присоединился Его Преосвященство епископ Штутгартский Иов, которого владыка Ириней пригласил посетить приход. Сослужили архиереям клирики флорентийского храма: протоиерей Георгий Блатинский, иерей Олег Цуркан и диакон Рустик Присакару.
В пятницу епископ Ириней сердечно приветствовал Первоиерарха, в очередной раз прибывшего в приход Флоренции, где Его Высокопреосвященство побывал во время совещания духовенства в 2023 году. Оба архиерея были также тепло встречены местной общиной, встретившись с прихожанами днём и проведя вечер с приходским духовенством, обсуждая духовную жизнь храма и Православной Церкви в целом. Состоялось обсуждение и планирование первого официального визита Первоиерарха в Великобританскую и Западно-Европейскую епархию в целом, которое ожидают всеверующие и духовенство.
Перед Всенощным Бдением в субботний вечер епископ Ириней пригласил общину для молитвенного поминовения приснопамятного Первоиерарха Зарубежной Церкви, митрополита Лавра, память небесного покровителя которого совершалась в этот день. Нынешний Первоиерарх, митрополит Николай, отслужил панихиду по митрополиту Лавру и произнёс проникновенное слово в его память.
Воскресная Божественная литургия, возглавляемая Первоиерархом РПЦЗ, была совершена в красивом нижнем храме прихода, посвящённом святителю Николаю чудотворцу, где обычно совершаются Богослужения в крайне жаркие летние месяцы. С особой красотой приходской хор исполнил Литургию, возглавленную тремя Архиереями, на которой многие верующие благоговейно приступили к принятию Святых Христовых Тайн и получили духовное наставление от Первоиерарха.
В Воскресенье после обеда в храме были совершены два Венчания: первое раба Божьего Сергия — старшего сына священника Олега Цуркана и матушки Нонны, которое радостно отметила вся община, так как любимое чадо прихода вступило в новую полноту жизни со своей невестой. Второе Венчание было преподано для верных чад Зарубежной Церкви, прибывших из-за Океана, и желающих обвенчаться в любимом их сердцу флорентийском храме.
На протяжении следующей недели епископ Иов останется во Флоренции по приглашению епископа Иринея для съёмок документального фильма об истории и жизни флорентийской общины, в рамках серии фильмов о наследии исторических храмов Зарубежной Церкви вЗападно-Европейской и Германской епархиях.
