ВОСКРЕСЕНЬЕ, 4 / 17 АПРЕЛЯ 2022 г.: В связи с окончанием Великого и Святого поста на вторую кафедру, в Кресто-Воздвиженский собор в Женеве, Швейцария, прибыл епископ Лондонский и Западно-Европейский Ириней, чтобы возглавить духовенство и верующих в чреде богослужений, знаменующих переход от Великого поста к Страстной седмице.
Прибывшего в пятницу, 15 апреля, Управляющего епархией встречал полный состав духовенства со всей Швейцарии, собравшийся на чин Всеобщего Соборования. Владыку Иринея приветствовали старший клирик епархии протоиерей Павел Цветков вместе с другим священнослужителем собора протоиереем Емилианом Починком. К местным клирикам присоединились иерей Иоанн Чурин (Бернский приход), иерей Павел Голинский (Базельский приход), иерей Авив Салиу-Диалло (Вевейский приход) и иерей Владимир Свистун (Цюрихский приход) вместе с протодиаконом Мишелем Верна (Вевейский приход), архидиакон собора в это время все еще путешествовал по Европе с чудотворной Курско-Коренной иконой. В самый день праздника владыку встретил полный храм, со вчерашнего вечера верующие принесли и держали своих руках ваия на протяжении прекрасной Литургии, в сопровождении песнопений возрастающего соборного хора.
Проповедуя по окончании Литургии, владыка призывал верующих к пониманию мистического значения входа Господня в Иерусалим. «Именно в этой уникальной реальности и событии мы являемся свидетелями истинной тайны и чуда нашего Бога и нашей жизни в Нем», — сказал проповедник. «Ибо сегодняшнее путешествие в Иерусалим есть день земной славы; но путь, который предстоит в Великую Пятницу, путь ко Кресту — это путь небесной славы, славы Божественной. Не сегодня мы видим любовь и силу Господа во всей их полноте; это проявится тогда, когда Он будет простирать Свои руки на Кресте. Сегодня мы видим, как Господь подчиняется ожиданиям Своих чад, которые желают видеть Царя; вскоре мы увидим, как Он поменяет ожидания этих детей на нечто большее: Он покажет им, что значит быть Богом, быть Искупителем, быть воплощенной Любовью, милосердием и состраданием. Он покажет им любовь Царя Царей; и Он покажет им, чего они должны желать, что они должны любить, что действительно достойно любви, обожания и преданности».
По окончании богослужения протоиерей Павел Цветков приветствовал иерарха от имени клира и верующих Женевского собора и поблагодарил его за архипастырские труды, многочисленные путешествия и начинания на благо верующих. В ответ владыка Ириней приветствовал духовенство и верующих, похвалил их за единство и миролюбие перед лицом трагических обстоятельств. Особо говоря о скорбях, выпавших на долю всех христиан в связи с продолжающейся в Украине войной, Его Преосвященство подчеркнул важность молитв и трудов епархии о помощи страждущим и ищущим мира, и о прекращения кровопролития.
«Но прежде всего, — добавил Владыка, — в эту нынешнюю неделю, седмицу распятия Спасителя нашего, мы должны признать, что только Он превращает страдания в радости и даже смерть в жизнь — самое важное послание для предстоящей Пасхи. Наше покаяние и наша горячая привязанность к Богу спасут мир от его братоубийственных заблуждений. Поэтому я призываю вас всех продолжать в том же духе любви, который вы уже так прекрасно продемонстрировали: продолжать работать во имя мира, помогать нуждающимся и опекать беженцев, утешать тех, кто страдает. И самое главное, всем сердцем следуйте за Христом. Следуйте за Ним на Его Крест, подчиняя Ему свою жизнь и свое покаяние, никогда не сомневаясь в том, что Он способен превратить даже эту великую скорбь в такую радость, которая приведет верных чад к Его славе».
После особых молитв о мире, воскресное богослужение епископ Ириней завершил общением с многими прихожанами, в том числе с вновь прибывшими беженцами, которое состоялось за трапезой под открытым небом. Позже в тот же день Его Преосвященство провел очередное заседание приходского совета.
На Страстную седмицу Архиерей вернулся в Лондон.

DIMANCHE 4 / 17 AVRIL 2022 : Alors que le Grand Carême touchait à sa fin, Mgr Irénée, Évêque de Londres et d’Europe occidentale, est arrivé à la deuxième cathédrale du diocèse, la cathédrale de l’Exaltation de la Croix à Genève, en Suisse, pour diriger le clergé et fidèles dans une série de services divins marquant la transition du carême à la semaine sainte.
Arrivé le vendredi 15 avril, l’évêque diocésain a été accueilli par un effectif complet du clergé de toute la Suisse, qui s’était réuni pour le rite de l’Onction générale (Soborovanie). Le premier clerc du diocèse, l’archiprêtre Pavel Tzvetkoff, a salué Vladyka Irénée, avec le deuxième prêtre de la cathédrale, l’archiprêtre Emilian Pocinok. Ces ecclésiastiques locaux ont été rejoints par le prêtre Ioan Ciurin (paroisse de Berne), le prêtre Pavel Golynski (paroisse de Bâle), le prêtre Aviv Saliou-Diallo (paroisse de Vevey) et le prêtre Vladimir Svystun (paroisse de Zurich), ainsi que le protodiacre Michel Vernaz (paroisse de Vevey) – l’archidiacre de la cathédrale encore voyageant ailleurs en Europe avec l’icône miraculeuse de Koursk. Ainsi le rite a pu être servi dans sa plénitude : un évêque avec six prêtres et diacres entourés de serviteurs et de pieux fidèles, symbolisant de manière puissante l’unité de l’Église dans sa plénitude, alors qu’elle s’apprête à entrer dans la semaine de la passion salvatrice du Christ.
C’était la première fois depuis de nombreuses années que le rite pouvait être célébré dans un ordre aussi complet, il a rassemblé un nombre énorme de fidèles – plus de 350 personnes ont été ointes «pour la guérison de l’âme et du corps et la rémission des péchés», et ainsi renforcés pour le voyage spirituel qui les attend.
Le samedi soir et le dimanche matin, S.E. Mgr Irénée a célébré les offices divins du dimanche des Rameaux, qui ont de nouveau réuni un très grand nombre de fidèles dans la prière. Le beau temps printanier à Genève a permis de servir la Litya de la Vigile à l’extérieur, après quoi la bénédiction des branches de palmier et des feuilles de saule a eu lieu pendant les Matines. Le jour de la fête elle-même, l’évêque a été accueilli par une église pleine, les fidèles tenant leurs palmes de la veille, et une belle liturgie s’est déroulée, dirigée par le chœur grandissant de la cathédrale.
Prêchant à la fin de la liturgie, Vladyka a encouragé les fidèles à comprendre la signification mystique de l’entrée du Seigneur à Jérusalem. « Précisément dans cette réalité et cet événement uniques, nous sommes témoins du véritable mystère et de la merveille de notre Dieu, et de notre vie en Lui », a déclaré le prédicateur. « Car le voyage d’aujourd’hui à Jérusalem est un jour de gloire terrestre ; mais le voyage qui doit venir le Grand Vendredi, le voyage vers la Croix — c’est un voyage de gloire céleste. Gloire divine. Ce n’est pas aujourd’hui que nous voyons l’amour et la puissance du Seigneur dans sa plénitude ; c’est alors qu’il étend ses bras sur la croix. Aujourd’hui, nous voyons le Seigneur se soumettre à l’attente de ses enfants, qui souhaitent voir un roi ; bientôt, nous le verrons changer l’attente de ces enfants en quelque chose de plus grand : Il leur montrera ce que signifie être Dieu, être Rédempteur, être Amour, miséricorde et compassion incarnés. Il leur montrera l’amour du Roi des rois ; et Il leur montrera ce qu’ils doivent vouloir, ce qu’ils doivent aimer — ce qui est vraiment digne d’amour, d’adoration et de dévotion. »
Après le service divin, l’archiprêtre Pavel Tzvetkoff a salué le hiérarque au nom du clergé et des fidèles de sa cathédrale de Genève, et l’a remercié pour ses travaux archipastoraux et ses nombreux voyages et entreprises pour le bien des fidèles. En réponse, Vladyka Irénée a salué le clergé et les fidèles, et les a félicités pour leur unité et leur esprit pacifique face à des circonstances tragiques. C’est pourquoi je vous encourage tous à continuer dans le même esprit d’amour que vous avez déjà si bien démontré : continuez à travailler pour la paix, à aider ceux qui sont dans le besoin, à aider et assister les réfugiés, à réconforter ceux qui souffrent. Et surtout, suivez le Christ de tout votre cœur. Suivez-le jusqu’à sa croix, soumettez-lui votre vie et votre repentir, ne doutant jamais qu’il est capable de transformer même cette grande douleur en ce qui conduira ses enfants à sa gloire. »
Mgr Irénée a terminé la matinée en visitant de nombreux paroissiens, y compris des réfugiés nouvellement arrivés, lors d’une réception à la porte après des prières spéciales pour la paix. Plus tard dans la journée, Son Excellence a présidé une réunion ordinaire du Conseil paroissial.
L’évêque reviendra à Londres pour la semaine sainte.

SUNDAY 4 / 17 APRIL 2022: As Great and Holy Lent drew to a close, Bishop Irenei of London and Western Europe arrived at the second cathedral of the Diocese, the Cathedral of the Exaltation of the Cross in Geneva, Switzerland, to lead the clergy and faithful in a series of Divine Services marking the transition from Lent into Holy Week.
Arriving on Friday, 15th April, the Diocesan Bishop was greeted by a full complement of clergy from across Switzerland, who had assembled for the rite of General Unction (Soborovanie). Greeting Vladyka Irenei was the senior cleric of the Diocese, Archpriest Pavel Tzvetkoff, together with the other priest of the Cathedral, Archpriest Emilian Pocinok. These local clerics were joined by Priest Ioan Ciurin (Bern Parish), Priest Pavel Golynski (Basel Parish), Priest Aviv Saliou-Diallo (Vevey Parish) and Priest Vladimir Svystun (Zurich Parish), together with Protodeacon Michel Vernaz (Vevey Parish), the Cathedral’s own Archdeacon still, at this time, travelling elsewhere in Europe with the wonderworking Kursk-root icon. Thus the rite was able to be served in its fulness: a bishop with six priests and deacons surrounded by servers and the pious faithful, symbolising in a powerful manner the unity of the Church in her fulness, as she prepares to enter into the week of Christ’s saving Passion.
It being the first time in many years that the rite was able to be celebrated in such a full order, it drew together enormous numbers of faithful — over 350 people were anointed ‘unto the healing of soul and body, and the remission of sins’, and thus strengthened for the spiritual journey ahead of them.
On Saturday evening and Sunday morning, His Grace officiated at the Divine Services for Palm Sunday, which once again drew extremely large numbers of faithful together in prayer and worship. Beautiful spring weather in Geneva permitted the Litya of the Vigil to be served outside, after which the blessing of palm branches and pussywillow fronds took place during Matins. On the feastday itself, the Bishop was greeted by a full church, the faithful holding their palms from the evening before, and a beautiful Liturgy unfolded, led by the cathedral’s growing choir.
Preaching at the conclusion of the Liturgy, Vladyka encouraged the faithful to understand the mystical significance of the Lord’s entrance into Jerusalem. ‘Precisely in this unique reality and event, we witness the true mystery and wonder of our God, and our life in Him,’ the preacher said. ‘For today’s journey into Jerusalem is a day of earthly glory; but the journey that is to come on Great Friday, the journey to the Cross — that is a a journey of heavenly glory. Divine glory. It is not today that we see the Lord’s love and power in its fullness; it is then, when He stretches His arms upon the Cross. Today we behold the Lord submit to the expectation of His children, who wish to see a King; soon, we will see Him change the expectation of those children into something greater: He will show them what it means to be God, to be Redeemer, to be Love and mercy and compassion incarnate. He will show them the love of the King of Kings; and He will show them what they ought to want, what they ought to love — what is truly worthy of love and adoration and devotion.’
Following the Divine Service, Archpriest Pavel Tzvetkoff greeted the hierarch on behalf of the clergy and faithful of the Geneva Cathedral, and thanked him for his archpastoral labours and many travels and undertakings for the sake of the faithful. In response, Vladyka Irenei greeted the clergy and faithful, and praised them for their unity and peaceful spirit in the face of tragic circumstances. Speaking expressly of the sorrows befalling all Christians in light of the ongoing war in Ukraine, His Grace emphasised the prayers and works of the Diocese to aid those who are suffering and seek peace and an end to bloodshed. ‘But above all else,’ Vladyka added, ‘in this present week, the week of the crucifixion of our Saviour, we must recognise that it is only He who turns sufferings into joys, and even death into life — the very message of our forthcoming Pascha. Our repentance and our fervent clinging to this God, will save the world from its fratricidal errors. Therefore I encourage you all to carry on in the same spirit of love that you have already demonstrated so beautifully: continue to work for peace, to help those who are in need, to aid and assist the refugees, to comfort those who are suffering. And above all, follow Christ with all your hearts. Follow Him to His Cross, submitting to Him your lives and your repentance, never doubting that He is able to transform even this great sorrow into that which will lead His children to His glory.’
Bishop Irenei finished the morning by visiting with many parishioners, including newly-arrived refugees, at an outdoor reception following special prayers for peace. Later in the day, His Grace chaired a regular meeting of the Parish Council.
The Bishop will return to London for Holy Week.
