A new book has been published about the Diocesan Cathedral in London. The London Cathedral of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God and the Holy Royal Martyrs: Architecture, Iconostasis, Painting is an album of beautiful photographs of the Cathedral’s iconography, together with information about the parish, its history, and the unique architectural and artistic significance of the Cathedral building itself.

With a Foreword by His Grace Bishop Irenei of London and Western Europe, essays within the volume include ‘Christianity in the British Isles’; ‘A Brief History of the London Cathedral’; and texts examining the Cathedral’s architecture, iconostasis and frescoes. The book is edited by Anna Zdanovich, Professor of the Icon Painting School of the Moscow Theological Academy, who herself oversaw the painting of the iconostasis and the frescoes of the Cathedral. The Assistant Editor is Subdeacon Nicolas Mabin. 

Writing in the Foreword, Bishop Irenei notes: ‘We pray that through the present volume, the unique treasures of this place may be appreciated and shared; and these pages will find their intended fulfilment if, having read them and gazed upon the images they convey, the desire stirs within the reader to “come and see”, and to experience directly the beauty of this sacred space and the God to Whom it is dedicated.’

The book is available at the kiosk of the London Cathedral; copies can also be ordered for delivery by post, by contacting the Cathedral through its website.

Издана новая книга о епархиальном кафедральном соборе в Лондоне. Лондонский Собор Рождества Пресвятой Богородицы и Святых Царственных Мучеников: Архитектура, Иконостас, Живопись — альбом прекрасных фотографий соборной иконографии, вместе с информацией о приходе и уникальном архитектурно-художественном значении этого храма.

Автор вступительного слова — Его Преосвященство епископ Лондонский и Западно-Европейский Ириней, и эссе включают «Христианство на Британских островах», «Краткая история Лондонского собора», а также очерки об архитектуре собора, его иконостасе и фресках. Альбом подготовлен к изданию преподавателем Иконописной школы Московской духовной академии Анной Зданович, под руководством которой собор был украшен иконами и расписан; редактор-ассистент — иподиакон Николай Мебин.

В предисловии епископ Ириней отмечает: «Мы молимся, чтобы люди с помощью настоящего издания по достоинству оценили уникальные сокровища этого места; чтобы после того, как читатель увидит образы на этих страницах, он бы вспомнил слова “приди и виждь”, и ему самому захотелось бы увидеть и почувствовать красоту этого места, этого священного пространства и Бога, которому все здесь посвящено».

Un nouveau livre a été publié sur la cathédrale diocésaine à Londres. La cathédrale de Londres de la Nativité de la Très Sainte Mère de Dieu et des Saints Martyrs royaux : architecture, iconostase, peinture est un album de belles photographies de l’iconographie de la cathédrale, ainsi que des informations sur la paroisse et la signification architecturale et artistique unique de la construction de la cathédrale elle-même.

Avec une préface de Son Excellence l’évêque Irénée de Londres et d’Europe occidentale, les essais incluent « Le christianisme dans les îles britanniques » ; « Une brève histoire de la cathédrale de Londres »; et des textes sur l’architecture, l’iconostase et les fresques de la cathédrale. Le livre est édité par Anna Zdanovich, professeur à l’école de peinture d’icônes de l’Académie théologique de Moscou, qui a elle-même supervisé la peinture de l’iconostase et des fresques de la cathédrale. Le rédacteur en chef adjoint est le sous-diacre Nicolas Mabin.

Écrivant dans l’avant-propos, Mgr Irénée note : « Nous prions qu’à travers ce présent volume, les trésors uniques de ce lieu puissent être appréciés et partagés ; et ces pages trouveront leur accomplissement prévu si, après les avoir lues et contemplé les images qu’elles véhiculent, le désir s’éveille chez le lecteur de ‘venez et voyez’, et de faire directement l’expérience de la beauté de cet espace sacré et du Dieu à qui il est dédié. »
