29 JUNE / 12 JULY 2024: On the Feast of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, His Grace Bishop Irenei of London and Western Europe headed the Divine Services at the Luxembourg Parish dedicated to the Apostles. Co-serving His Grace were the Rector of the Luxembourg church, the Very Reverend Archpriest Ioann Grigoritse, together with Archpriest Stefan Weerts of the Brussels Resurrection Parish and invited clergy Archpriest Igor Konstantinovich (Orthodox Church of Moldova), Archpriest Timothy Kitnis and Priest Stanislav Shapovalov (of the Paris Archdiocese).
This year’s celebration of the Altar Feast was characterised by a particular joy, as the occasion marked the 95th anniversary of the foundation of the Parish in 1929 by former White Army officers who had served under General Wrangel. Bishop Irenei congratulated the clergy and faithful on what he called ‘this intermediate anniversary’, recalling his warm memories of the 90th anniversary celebrations and urging all to look forward with hope and anticipation to the 100th anniversary, which will be celebrated in 2029 with solemn services and notable festivities.
The Divine Services of the Feast were accompanied by the beautiful singing of the parish choir, and prayers were lifted up to the patronal saints of the community with deep reverence. Bishop Irenei presided at the All-Night Vigil and the Liturgy, and at the conclusion of the latter led a Cross procession around the temple — the temperamental Luxembourg weather having yielded sunshine to enable the faithful to make their customary procession to the glory of God.
In the word of his homily, Vladyka spoke in Russian and in French of the transformation that took place in the lives of the two Apostles at the centre of the day’s commemorations. ‘God took a fisherman, and made him into a pillar of the Church’, preached the Archpastor. ‘And He took a sinful persecutor and made him into missionary and founder of churches. On their shoulders have stood centuries and generations.’
The Bishop continued: ‘Never believe, my brethren, not for a single moment, that God is beyond you. Never accept, not for one minute, that His will is unfolding without you, or that, having made you, He does not desire to make use of you. … Never believe that He cannot do wonderful things with you, with your life. Never make the excuse that you are too weak, too sinful, or too frail. … For the Lord loves you, as He loved these two Apostles; He created you, as He created them — and He is not finished with you yet!’
At the conclusion of the Divine Services, the Bishop awarded special gramatas of recognition to four of the Parish’s most active members: Mr Paul Кimmes, the long-serving Treasurer and member of the Parish Council; Elena Borisovna Vitel, the Choir Director and editor of the Parish’s newsletter, ‘Весточка’; Inna Valerievna Genshou, chronicler of the Parish’s life and author of the book on its history, ‘И засияли золотыяе купола’ (‘And Golden Domes Shone Forth’); and Olga Timofeevna Tregubova, one of the parish’s eldest members and diligent preserver of the traditions and culture of the Church Abroad. The Bishop also offered his congratulations to Archpriest Ioann, whose one-year anniversary of being appointed as Rector of the Luxembourg Parish coincided with the Feast. In return, Fr Ioann thanked the Ruling Bishop for his presence and prayers, and presented him with an icon of the Holy Royal Martyrs on behalf of the Parish — an icon that had formerly belonged to Archpriest Sergius Poukh and his matushka, Emilia, by whose benefice the beautiful temple was constructed.
A festal banquet took place in the churchyard, during which a special concert was held of religious and folk music performed by the children of the parish. Bishop Irenei and the guest clergy were able to stay for many hours throughout the afternoon, enjoying spiritual fellowship with the community.

29 ИЮНЯ / 12 ИЮЛЯ 2024 г.: В праздник СвятыхАпостолов Петра и Павла Преосвященнейший епископ Лондонский и Западноевропейский Ириней возглавил богослужения в Люксембургском приходе, отмечающем свой престольный праздник. Его Преосвященству сослужили настоятель прихода протоиерей Иоанн Григорице, протоиерей Стефан Веэртс из брюссельского Воскресенского храма и приглашенное духовенство: протоиерей Игорь Константинович (Православной Церкви Молдовы), протоиерей Тимофей Китнис и иерей Станислав Шаповалов (Парижской Архиепископии).
В этом году празднование было особенным, поскольку отмечалось 95-летие со дня основания прихода, созданного в 1929 году офицерами Белой армии, служившими под началом генерала Врангеля. Епископ Ириней поздравил духовенство и верующих с тем, что он именовал «промежуточным юбилеем», вспомнив теплые воспоминания о праздновании 90-летия и призвав всех с надеждой и предвкушением дождаться 100-летия, которое будет отмечаться в 2029 году торжественными богослужениями и станет знаменательной датой.
Богослужения праздника сопровождались прекрасным пением приходского хора, с глубоким благоговением возносились молитвы святым покровителям общины.Епископ Ириней возглавил Всенощное бдение и Литургию, а по завершении последней возглавил Крестный ход вокруг храма. Привередливая люксембургская погода подарила в этот момент солнечный свет, позволивший верующим совершить свой обычный крестный ход во славу Божию.
Касаясь праздника, в слове своей проповеди на русском и французском языках, Владыка рассказал о преображении, произошедшем в жизни двух Апостолов. «Бог взял рыбака и сделал его столпом Церкви», — проповедовал архипастырь. «И Он взял грешного гонителя и сделал его миссионером и основателем церквей. На их плечах водрузились века и поколения».
Епископ продолжал: «Никогда, братья мои, ни на мгновение не верьте, что Бог далече от вас. Никогда, ни на минуту не принимайте, что Его воля разворачивается без вас или что, сотворив вас, Он позабыл о вас. … Никогда не верьте, что Он не может творить чудеса с вами, с вашей жизнью. Никогда не оправдывайтесь тем, что вы слишком слабы, слишком грешны или слишком хрупки. … Ибо Господь любит вас, как Он возлюбил этих двух Апостолов; Он создал вас, как Он создал их — и Он еще не завершил Свой промысел о Вас!»
После окончания богослужения Архиерей вручил специальные грамоты четырем наиболее активным членам прихода: господину Паулю Киммесу, многолетнему казначею и члену приходского совета; Елене Борисовне Виттель, регенту и редакторуприходского бюллетеня «Весточка»; Инне ВалерьевнеГеншоу, летописцу приходской жизни и автору книги о его истории «И засияли золотые купола»; и ОльгеТимофеевне Трегубовой, одной из старейших прихожанок, усердной хранительнице традиций и культуры Зарубежной Церкви. Владыка также поздравил протоиерея Иоанна, годовщина назначения которого на должность настоятеля Люксембургского прихода совпала с престольным праздником. В ответ о. Иоанн поблагодарил Правящего Архиерея за присутствие и молитвы и подарил ему от имени прихода образу Святых Царственных мучеников — икону, ранее принадлежавшую протоиерею Сергию Пуху и его матушке Эмилии, трудами и на средства которых, был построен здешний прекрасный храм.
Затем в церковном дворе состоялся праздничная трапеза, в ходе которого был поставлен специальный концерт религиозной и народной музыки в исполнении детского приходского хора. Епископ Ириней и приглашенное духовенство смогли остаться на многие часы в течение дня, наслаждаясь духовным общением с мирянами.
