To the Very Reverend and Reverend Clergy, and the Pious Faithful, the believing Children of the Church in Europe and the British Isles:
May God be glorified in His saints, and may the maternal protection of His most-blessed Mother be ever with us!
As the visit of the Hawaiian-Iveron icon of the Mother of God to our Diocese draws to its conclusion, my heart is filled with gratitude to the Lord for the gift that the past three weeks have proved for the pious faithful of Europe and the British Isles. Though we live in these latter days which are replete with temptations and struggles, the Saviour of the World never forgets or abandons us; and when we require encouragement, He is ever ready to provide it. And what greater encouragement could there be, in order to renew in the hearts of every man and woman a burning zeal to follow Christ into His Father’s Kingdom, than to be visited by His Mother and provided with heavenly testimony to the strength of her maternal intercessions for us?
In these days we have found ourselves standing in the presence of ‘signs and wonders’, as once the ancients remarked when seeing the Grace of Almighty God evident in the works of the great God-seer, Moses. For some, this will have been the first time to behold such things in such a way — to stand face-to-face with the visible manifestation of heavenly mercy. Yet the Theotokos comes not to dazzle and amaze, much less to become an idol or object of distraction from her Child. Indeed, her visitations are always indications of the one true path to salvation: the dedication of our lives to following the Divine and Human Son to Whom she gave birth, and to Whom she always points. The miracle of her visitation is a reminder that we live ever in the embrace of the miraculous, though perhaps we are too self-concerned and distracted by worldly matters always to see it. She comes to remind us — and for these past weeks we have been profoundly reminded — that our lives are lived in the embrace of the God Who always works wonders: Who creates heaven and earth, and each human life, to be transfigured into the sanctity of a life united wholly to Him.
I express my gratitude to the clergy of this God-preserved Diocese for the efforts that have gone into preparations for the visitation of the icon, and congratulate them with the joy of the occasion. I also convey my deep thanksgiving for the close fraternal relations with our brother-hierarchs and sister dioceses of the other Local Orthodox Churches across Europe and the British Isles, which have been so manifest in the joint services and visitations during these weeks: especially His Eminence Metropolitan Nestor of Korsun and Western Europe and His Eminence Archbishop Simon of of the Patriarchal Diocese of Belgium; His Eminence Metropolitan Silouan of the Antiochian Archdiocese of the British Isles; and His Grace Bishop Dositej of the Serbian Orthodox Diocese of Great Britain, Ireland and Scandinavia — whose warm and enthusiastic cooperation made it possible for their pious flocks to join in prayer and veneration before the icon of the Theotokos, together with the faithful of many other dioceses, nationalities and heritages who gathered in the unity of Orthodox prayer. And of course, we are grateful for the selfless labours of the Reverend Priest Nectary Yangson, appointed by the Holy Synod as the keeper and co-traveller of the Hawaiian icon, who for seventeen years has fulfilled this heavy obedience with the same gentleness and care witnessed in his visit amongst us; and to His Eminence Archbishop Kyrill of San Francisco and Western America, for granting the blessing for the icon to come to us.
Above all, let us each give thanks to the Mother of God for ever renewing in our hearts the zeal of faith in her Son! Let us, each and all, be inspired to become more devoted, more loving, more obedient, more repentant, more faithful and true disciples of our Risen God, Whom she brings to us with maternal love with Whom she is herself raised up in glory!

По мере того как приближается завершение пребывания «Гавайской»-Иверской иконы Божией Матери в нашей епархии, мое сердце исполнено благодарности Господу за дар, которым последние три недели стали для благочестивых верующих Европы и Британских островов. Несмотря на то, что мы живем в последние дни, наполненные искушениями и борьбой, Спаситель мира никогда не забывает и не оставляет нас; и когда нам необходимо утешение, Он всегда готов его даровать. А что может быть более ободряющим, чтобы возжечь в сердцах каждого мужчины и каждой женщины пламенное стремление следовать за Христом в Царство Его Отца, чем посещение Его Матери и явленное небесное свидетельство силы ее материнского заступничества за нас?
В эти дни мы оказались лицом к лицу с «знамениями и чудесами», как некогда древние замечали, видя благодать Всемогущего Бога, явленную в делах великого боговидца Моисея. Для некоторых это был первый случай увидеть подобное — стоять перед явным проявлением небесной милости. Однако Богородица приходит не для того, чтобы поражать и удивлять, и уж тем более не для того, чтобы стать идолом или отвлечением от Ее Сына. Ее посещения всегда указывают на единственно верный путь ко спасению: посвящение нашей жизни следованию за Божественным и Человеческим Сыном, Которому она дала жизнь, и на Которого всегда указывает. Чудо Ее посещения — это напоминание о том, что мы всегда пребываем в объятиях чудесного, хотя, возможно, мы слишком озабочены и отвлечены мирскими заботами, чтобы это видеть. Она приходит, чтобы напомнить нам — и за эти последние недели мы были глубоко об этом извещены, — что наша жизнь проходит в объятиях Бога, Который всегда творит чудеса: Того, Кто создает небо и землю, и каждую человеческую жизнь, чтобы она была преображена в святость жизни, полностью соединенной с Ним.
Я выражаю свою благодарность духовенству нашей богохранимой епархии за усилия, вложенные в подготовку посещения иконы, и поздравляю их с радостью этого события. Также я передаю глубокую благодарность за близкие братские отношения с нашими собратьями-архиереями и сестринскими епархиями других Поместных Православных Церквей по всей Европе и на Британских островах, которые так ярко проявились в совместных богослужениях и визитах в эти недели: особенно Его Высокопреосвященству митрополиту Нестору Корсунскому и Западно-Европейскому, Его Высокопреосвященству архиепископу Симону, управляющему Патриаршей епархией Бельгии; Его Высокопреосвященству митрополиту Силуану, Антиохийской епархии Британских островов; и Его Преосвященству епископу Досифею Сербской епархии Великобритании, Ирландии и Скандинавии — чье теплое и энергичное сотрудничество позволило их благочестивым паствам присоединиться к молитвам и поклонению перед иконой Богородицы вместе с верующими многих других юрисдикций, национальностей и традиций, собравшихся в единстве православной молитвы. И, конечно, мы благодарны за самоотверженные труды Его Благословения иерея Нектария Янсона, назначенного Священным Архиерейским Синодом хранителем Гавайской иконы, который на протяжении семнадцати лет несет этот тяжелый послушнический крест с той же кротостью и заботой, которые мы наблюдали в его визите к нам; а также к Его Высокопреосвященству архиепископу Кириллу Сан-Францисскому и Западно-Американскому за благословение на посещение реликвии.
Превыше всего воздадим благодарение Матери Божией за непрестанное обновление в наших сердцах ревности к вере в Ее Сына! Да будем все мы вдохновлены становиться более преданными, более любящими, более послушными, более кающимися, более верными и истинными учениками нашего Воскресшего Господа, Которого Она приносит нам с материнской любовью и с Которым Она сама пребывает во славе!

Au vénérable clergé et aux pieux fidèles, enfants de l’Église en Europe et dans les Îles Britanniques :
Que Dieu soit glorifié dans Ses saints, et que la protection maternelle de Sa très-bénie Mère demeure toujours avec nous !
Alors que la visite de l’icône de la Mère de Dieu de Hawaï-Iviron dans notre diocèse touche à sa fin, mon cœur est rempli de gratitude envers le Seigneur pour le don qu’ont représenté ces trois dernières semaines pour les fidèles pieux d’Europe et des Îles Britanniques. Bien que nous vivions en ces temps derniers, remplis de tentations et de luttes, le Sauveur du monde ne nous oublie ni ne nous abandonne jamais ; et lorsque nous avons besoin de réconfort, Il est toujours prêt à nous l’offrir. Et quel plus grand réconfort pourrait-il y avoir, pour renouveler dans le cœur de chacun un zèle ardent à suivre le Christ dans le Royaume de Son Père, que d’être visités par Sa Mère et de recevoir un témoignage céleste sur la puissance de ses intercessions maternelles pour nous ?
En ces jours, nous nous sommes trouvés en présence de « signes et prodiges », comme jadis les anciens le remarquèrent en voyant la grâce du Dieu Tout-Puissant manifeste dans les œuvres du grand voyant de Dieu, Moïse. Pour certains, ce fut peut-être la première fois d’être témoins de telles choses — de se tenir face à face avec la manifestation visible de la miséricorde céleste. Pourtant, la Mère de Dieu ne vient pas pour éblouir ou émerveiller, encore moins pour devenir une idole ou un objet de distraction de Son Enfant. En vérité, ses visites sont toujours des indications du seul et unique chemin du salut : la consécration de nos vies à suivre le Fils Divin et Humain auquel elle a donné naissance, et vers lequel elle nous guide toujours. Le miracle de sa visitation est un rappel que nous vivons continuellement dans l’étreinte du miraculeux, bien que peut-être trop préoccupés par nous-mêmes et distraits par les affaires mondaines pour toujours le percevoir. Elle vient nous rappeler — et ces dernières semaines nous en avons été profondément rappelés — que nos vies sont vécues dans l’étreinte du Dieu qui accomplit toujours des merveilles : Qui crée le ciel et la terre, et chaque vie humaine, pour être transfigurée dans la sainteté d’une vie unie totalement à Lui.
J’exprime ma gratitude au clergé de norte diocèsegardé par Dieu, pour les efforts investis dans les préparatifs de la visitation de l’icône, et les félicite avec la joie de cette occasion. Je transmets également mes sincères remerciements pour les relations fraternelles étroites avec nos frères-hiérarques et les éparchies sœurs des autres Églises Orthodoxes locales à travers l’Europe et les Îles Britanniques, qui ont été si manifestes dans les offices communs et les visites au cours de ces semaines : particulièrement Son Éminence le Métropolite Nestor de Chersonèse et d’Europe Occidentale et Son Éminence l’Archevêque Simon de l’Éparchie Patriarcale de Belgique ; Son Éminence le Métropolite Silouane de l’Archidiocèse Antiochien des Îles Britanniques ; et Son Excellence l’Évêque Dosithée de l’Éparchie Orthodoxe Serbe de Grande-Bretagne, d’Irlande et de Scandinavie — dont la chaleureuse et enthousiaste coopération a permis à leurs fidèles pieux de se joindre à la prière et à la vénération devant l’icône de la Mère de Dieu, aux côtés des fidèles de nombreuses autres éparchies, nationalités et origines, rassemblés dans l’unité de la prière orthodoxe. Et bien sûr, nous exprimons notre reconnaissance pour les labeurs désintéressés du révérend prêtre Nectaire Yangson, désigné par le Saint-Synode comme gardien et compagnon de voyage de l’icône Hawaïenne, qui, depuis dix-sept ans, remplit cette obéissance difficile avec la même douceur et le même soin dont nous avons été témoins lors de sa visite parmi nous ; ainsi qu’à Son Éminence l’Archevêque Cyrille de San Francisco et d’Amérique occidentale, pour avoir accordé la bénédiction permettant la venue de l’icône parmi nous.
Par-dessus tout, rendons grâce chacun à la Mère de Dieu pour le renouvellement constant dans nos cœurs du zèle de la foi en Son Fils ! Soyons, tous et chacun, inspirés à devenir plus dévoués, plus aimants, plus obéissants, plus repentants, des disciples plus fidèles et véritables de notre Dieu Ressuscité, qu’elle nous amène avec un amour maternel, avec lequel elle-même est glorifiée !
