SUNDAY 22 JULY / 4 AUGUST 2024: On the feast day of the Holy Equal-of-the-Apostles, St Mary Magdalene, whom the young people of the London Cathedral last year chose as the patron saint of the Cathedral Youth Group, His Grace Bishop Irenei of London and Western Europe received members of the Youth Group at the Chancellery house for a BBQ in honour of their heavenly patron.

Following the hierarchical Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral, the youth served an akathist to St Mary Magdalene, headed by Hieromonk Theodore. They then made their way to the Chancellery house, where they were received by the Ruling Bishop. In traditional ‘youth group style’, the young people themselves brought all the supplies for the barbecue meal, which they set about preparing in the garden — the London weather proving surprisingly cooperative and providing a lovely environment for the occasion.

Having spent some time in friendly conversation while preparing and cooking the meal — as well as becoming acquainted with the Bishop’s two cats — the youth eventually gathered together with the His Grace and Fr Theodore for a spiritual discussion. Vladyka spoke, at their request, about the spiritual and practical role of the Bishop in Holy Orthodoxy, after which the youth asked many questions about their lives in the Church and in the world.

The occasion lasted throughout the afternoon and evening, in a spirit of joy and enthusiasm for the Christian life. At its conclusion, Vladyka offered his heartfelt support for the labours of the Youth Group, and his blessing for its important mission.

ВОСКРЕСЕНЬЕ 22 ИЮЛЯ / 4 АВГУСТА 2024 г.: В день памяти святой равноапостольной Марии Магдалины, которую молодежь Лондонского кафедрального собора в прошлом году избрала покровительницей молодежной группы собора, Его Преосвященство епископ Лондонский и Западно-Европейский Ириней принял членов молодежной группы в здании Канцелярии на барбекю в честь их небесной покровительницы.

После архиерейской Божественной литургии в соборе молодежь молилась акафистом святой Марии Магдалине во главе с иеромонахом Феодором. Затем они направились в дом Канцелярии, где их принял Правящий архиерей. Молодые люди сами принесли все необходимое для барбекю, которое они начали готовить в саду — лондонская погода оказалась на удивление благоприятной и обеспечила прекрасную обстановку для мероприятия.

Проведя некоторое время в дружеской беседе, готовя еду, а также познакомившись с двумя котами архиерея, молодежь в конце концов собралась вместе с его Преосвященством и отцом Феодором для духовной беседы. Владыка рассказал, по их просьбе, о духовной и практической роли архиерея в Церкви, после чего молодежь задала много вопросов о своей жизни в Церкви и в миру.

Мероприятие продолжалось весь день и вечер в духе радости и энтузиазма к христианской жизни. В заключение Владыка выразил свою сердечную поддержку трудам молодежной группы и благословил ее важную миссию.
