Over the weekend of 13th-14th August, seven young people from the Cathedral Youth Group in London made a second visit to St Leonard’s on Sea to help in the construction of a new small church for the community in Sussex (near Hastings).
After breakfast in the garden some worked on exterior woodwork and making an icon desk for the temple, while others helped paint the iconostasis and also applied gold-leaf. Preparations were made for the placing of the dome and Cross on the roof, and a candlestand was restored and polished.
After a very hot day, a swim in the sea was followed by Vespers in the church-under-construction and dinner in the garden.
The new church, dedicated to Christ the All-Merciful Saviour, will hopefully be ready to be blessed by His Grace Bishop Irenei of London and Western Europe in the autumn, and is under the care of Deacon Alexandr Groves.
