29 JUNE / 12 JULY 2023: The Divine Services of the Great Feast of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul were celebrated in Luxembourg, in the beautiful temple dedicated to their honour, by His Grace Bishop Irenei of London and Western Europe.

Not only were the festivities augmented by the Archpastor’s visit, but the Parish also marked an important moment in its life: after the festal Divine Liturgy on Wednesday morning, the Very Reverend Archpriest Ioann Grigoriță was formally installed as Rector of the Luxembourg Parish, and prayers were lifted up to Almighty God for the receipt of many divine blessings upon his new role. Fr Ioann’s appointment coincided with the retirement, for reasons of health, requested by the previous Rector, Priest Georges Machtalère; and the Parish expressed its deep thanks to Fr Georges for his years of service, dedication and love shown to the Luxembourg faithful, presenting him with an icon of the Apostles and many words of gratitude.

The festal Divine Services were headed by Bishop Irenei, co-served by Archpriest Ioann and Priest George, together with clergy who had come to Luxembourg for the festivities: Archpriest Stefan Weerts (from the Brussels Resurrection Parish), Priest Alexander Machtalère (Diocese of Korsun), and Priest Timothy Kitnis (Parisian Archdiocese of the MP), and Protodeacon Alexandre Boldyreff (from the Meudon Parish).

At the Hours before the Liturgy, the faithful layman of the Parish, Alexei Kolodkin, was tonsured a Reader and ordained as Subdeacon.

In his homily for the Feast, Vladyka Irenei called to mind the example of the repentance of both St Peter and St Paul. ‘My brothers and sisters,’ said the preacher, ‘behold the true glory that we celebrate today! Broken men, sinful men, men who have done truly evil things, respond to the love of God and are transformed by repentance into shining stars in the heaven of Orthodoxy! The love of God has this power. It can make the worst men into saints. It can soften the hardest heart. It can bring peace where there is only division and sorrow and despair.’

Following the Divine Liturgy and Cross Procession, Vladyka warmly congratulated the parish, its new Rector and its outgoing Rector, with the grace of the day. A festive meal was then served in the open air, at which children performed a small programme of readings for the Feast, and clergy and faithful discussed spiritual matters with their Archpastor throughout the afternoon.

29 ИЮНЯ / 12 ИЮЛЯ 2023 г.: Богослужения великого праздника святых Первоверховных апостолов Петра и Павла, возглавленные Преосвященнейшим епископом Лондонским и Западно-Европейским Иринеем, были совершены в Люксембурге, в красивом местном храме, посвященном их памяти.

Визит Архипастыря не только усугубил празднества, но и в самом приходе ознаменовал важный момент в его жизни: после праздничной Божественной литургии в среду утром настоятелем Люксембургского прихода был официально назначен протоиерей Иоанн Григорицэ, и ко Всемогущему Богу были вознесены молитвы о ниспослании обильных божественных благословений для его новой миссии. Назначение отца Иоанна совпало с уходом на покой предыдущего настоятеля священника Георгия Машталера, который подал прошение по состоянию здоровья. Приход выразил глубокую благодарность отцу Георгию за многолетнее служение, самоотверженность и любовь к люксембургским верующим, подарив ему икону апостолов и много слов благодарности.

Праздничные богослужения возглавил епископ Ириней, в сослужении протоиереев Иоанна и иерея Георгия, а также духовенства, прибывшего в Люксембург на торжества: протоиерея Стефана Вертса (из Брюссельского Воскресенского прихода), иерея Александра Машталера (Корсунская епархия), протоиерея Тимофея Китниса (Парижская архиепископия МП), и протодиакона Александра Болдырева (из Медонского прихода).

На Часах перед Литургией верный мирянин прихода Алексей Колодкин был пострижен в чтецы и рукоположен в иподиаконы.

В своей проповеди по случаю праздника владыка Ириней напомнил пример покаяния святых Петра и Павла. «Мои возлюбленные братья и сестры, — сказал проповедник, — вот истинная слава, которую мы празднуем сегодня! Пропащие люди, грешники, те, кто совершали действительно злые поступки, откликаются на любовь Божью и в покаянии превращаются в сияющие светила на Православном небосводе! Любовь Божья обладает этой силой. Она может сделать худых людей святыми. Она может смягчить самое жесткое сердце. Она может принести мир там, где лишь есть горе, разделение, и отчаяние».

После Божественной литургии и крестного хода Владыка искренне поздравил приход, его нового и уходящего настоятеля с престольным праздником. Затем на открытом воздухе была совершена праздничная трапеза, на которой дети исполнили небольшую программу, а священнослужители и верующие со своим архипастырем обсуждали животрепещущие вопросы духовной жизни.

29 JUIN / 12 JUILLET 2023 : Les offices divins de la Grande Fête des Saints Apôtres Pierre et Paul ont été célébrés à Luxembourg, dans le magnifique temple dédié à leur honneur, par Son Excellence l’évêque Irénée de Londres et d’Europe occidentale.

Non seulement les festivités ont été augmentées par la visite de l’archipasteur, mais la paroisse a également marqué un moment important de sa vie : après la divine Liturgie festive du mercredi matin, le très révérend archiprêtre Ioann Grigoriță a été officiellement installé comme recteur de la paroisse de Luxembourg, et les prières ont été élevés vers Dieu Tout-Puissant pour la réception de nombreuses bénédictions divines sur son nouveau rôle. La nomination du Père Ioann a coïncidé avec le départ à la retraite, pour raisons de santé, demandé par le précédent recteur, le révérend prêtre Georges Machtalère ; et la paroisse a exprimé ses profonds remerciements au Père Georges pour ses années de service, de dévouement et d’amour envers les fidèles luxembourgeois, en lui remettant une icône des Apôtres et de nombreux mots de gratitude.

Les services divins festaux étaient dirigés par Mgr Irénée, co-servi par l’archiprêtre Ioann et le prêtre George, ainsi que des membres du clergé venus à Luxembourg pour les festivités: l’archiprêtre Stefan Weerts (de la paroisse de la Résurrection à Bruxelles), le prêtre Alexander Machtalère (diocèse de Korsun), et le prêtre Timothy Kitnis (Archidiocèse parisien de la MP), et le protodiacre Alexandre Boldyreff (de la Paroisse à Meudon).

Aux heures précédant la Liturgie, le fidèle laïc de la paroisse, Alexei Kolodkin, a été tonsuré lecteur et ordonné sous-diacre.

Dans son homélie pour la fête, Vladyka Irénée a rappelé l’exemple de la repentance de saint Pierre et de saint Paul. « Mes frères et sœurs, — dit le prédicateur, — voyez la vraie gloire que nous célébrons aujourd’hui ! Des hommes brisés, des hommes pécheurs, des hommes qui ont fait des choses vraiment mauvaises, répondent à l’amour de Dieu et sont transformés par la repentance en étoiles brillantes dans le ciel de l’orthodoxie ! L’amour de Dieu a ce pouvoir. Cela peut transformer les pires hommes en saints. Il peut adoucir les cœurs les plus durs. Cela peut apporter la paix là où il n’y a que division, chagrin et désespoir. »

Après la Divine Liturgie et la procession de la Croix, Vladyka a chaleureusement félicité la paroisse, son nouveau recteur et son recteur sortant, avec la grâce du jour. Un repas de fête a ensuite été servi en plein air, au cours duquel les enfants ont exécuté un petit programme de lectures pour la Fête, et le clergé et les fidèles ont discuté de questions spirituelles avec leur archipasteur tout au long de l’après-midi.
